Yes i never did warm up to the 64. Majora's Mask 3D pretty much seals the deal too. That was the last thing i really wanted to play that required a 64.
I think i'm in the minority, but i really do like the 3D and always play with it on. But there are some other changes to these Zelda games that most people consider favorable. .. Also just being able to play these games portably is pretty special, (and much better suited to my own habits)
.. I played the New 3DS in a store display. I thought it was pretty nice and significantly improved, but there were some design things i wasnt able to evaluate bc the store display covers up parts, (like the card port and the stylus which have both been relocated). I like the way my old 3DS looks more than i like either of the new ones, (all black or all red). Plus i have a Circle Pad Pro peripheral that is functionally identical to the New C-stick and ZR and ZL buttons, which would become useless if i traded in my old 3ds.
The Circle Pad Pro is a full analog stick, just like the main one on the 3DS. The new C-stick is tiny and rigid, no feedback whatsoever. You really cant even tell you're pressing it unless you see the effect on the game screen. .. Not sure if future c-stick games will support the circle pad pro, but majoras mask does.
.. The new face tracking 3D does work quite well to accomodate changing angles of site. .. But if you don't care for the 3D in the first place i suppose it is of no consequence.
The 3DS is a pretty decent platform regardless of the gimmicks. Even if you don't want to play in 3D though, i would avoid the 2DS. By most accounts it is a pretty clumsy presentation and intended for very young gamers.

I suppose that is true. The design and layout of the 2DS seems a little strange. I went surfing for some pictures of the New 3DS, and I think I understand what you're saying about the C-stick. At first glance, it reminds me of those eraser-shaped pointing sticks which don't offer much in the way of tactile feedback. One thing that discourages me from jumping into 3DS collecting is that certain 3DS games (e.g., Ocarina of Time 3D) are already being discontinued, which means the entire library will become something of a collector's item in a few short years. Not really wanting to throw down $200 for individual in-demand 3DS games in the future, I think I'll pass.

There are not a huge number of games that demand your attention, out of print or otherwise, in my opinion. Hits like Ocarina will continue to be available as DOWNLOADS. But you would probably have to upgrade to a bigger SD card to fit more than one or two full size games like that.
I didn't know that game was out of print though. That really sucks. I just checked and it seems to be going for around $80 on ebay. .. Don't be surprised if Nintendo repackages it in the future though.

At this point, I would be surprised if Nintendo did anything to satisfy the customer. I've heard the New 3DS handhelds ship without a charging cable included. That's akin to purchasing a laptop and having to buy the power cord separately. All these cost-cutting measures are ruining the industry. I miss the days when game companies weren't afraid to invest some money into their products.

I agree with that to the extent that shipping this device without a charger is incredibly annoying and arguably deceptive. But they are somewhat hampered by the consumer culture that insists on ending the price of everything with .99. .. If it exceeds 200 USD it will be very difficult to convince anyone to buy it. .. But the OLD model has been priced at 199.99 continuously and up to the present. So they are selling a new and improved device for the same price. ..I cant imagine they devised hardware changes and "face tracking software" without any investment.
There are a lot of dissappoinments in the video game industry but i blame the consumers MUCH more than the developers. I don't want to play most of the games that are the most successful but that's what there is because thats where the demand is. There's other factors too though, i.e. that a videogame on today's platforms is a much larger production and it's very difficult to take risks when it takes 100 people and multiple millions of dollars to make a single viable game.
.. With re-issuing Ocarina i was looking at that more as a business prospect for Nintendo rather than a favor to the fans. They could add c-stick support and call it a new edition.

I won't argue against that. If the industry can be perceived to be cranking out too many homogenized FPS games, the consumer is to blame for creating the demand for these types of games. If the industry is cutting corners, the consumer is to blame for buying the games anyway and not voicing their disapproval. Of course, there are more than a few modern games that are innovative and fresh. But it's too often the case that a game studio will take a promising new concept and attempt to simplify it for the Call of Duty audience. When this happens, I'm reminded of the fact that video games these days rarely ever qualify as an expression of art. People don't buy them because they represent some lofty aesthetic principle. They buy them because the studio has figured out the buying habits of the consumer and the consumer is drawn to these games like a mouse to the cheese.

The regular sized (Non-XL) New Nintendo 3DS will release in the U.S. at $99 on Black Friday. I think this is the first time the non-XL "New" has released here. .. Can anybody give a first hand experience comparison between the XL and the non-XL? (New or otherwise). .. I have only ever played the XL versions. Ocarina of Time is re-released in physical form for a while now. I think it sells at a bargain price, less than normal games, usually about $20.

I noticed that, Glip. It joined the $20 Nintendo Selects lineup along with Wind Waker HD (which I purchased), Pikmin 3 (another formerly out-of-print game), and some other titles. I was pleasantly surprised that Nintendo responded to fan demand by offering the games at discounted price.

Well I thought the $99 New 3DS was a longer term seasonal deal but it is looking now like it was a one time thing, very low stock and basically immediately sold out. WHAT A RIP OFF!
There was also a $149 non-XL New 3DS edition with face plates and Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed. .. Also sold out immediately.
The insufficient NES Mini stock pissed a lot of people off but that was kind of a nitch novelty product. I can see how they might not want to risk over-production, (not sure how close they came to demand, just sayin'). But the New 3DS is a current product and predictably in demand. Obviously they purposely released less than the demand. How obnoxious!
.. There must be some eventual general U.S. release of the non-XL New 3DS. I wonder what it will cost.

I think the $99 New 3DS was a Black Friday special. I've seen some of the $149 3DS consoles with the Mario decals. They seemed to be in-stock at most local stores until recently, so we may see more units trickle in before Christmas. Speaking of Black Friday, I managed to collect a modest bounty of assorted DVDs and games on sale--Pikmin 3 for the Wii U was among them.
