It's a nice start and truly a varied list which doesn't favor the old or just limits to consoles. I do think there's something to the way that the Rock n Roll Hall of fame does though. Entries into it must have recorded their first album at least 25 years ago, making sure that they not only made a considerable contribution but also left a lasting mark which influenced future artists.

I looked at the article and was unsure if Pong the game was inducted or whether Pong the system was mistaken as the game. Do they take nominations for systems? What about people who influenced the industry?
If its games only, I don't see either the Vectrex or any of it's games being part of the Hall.

Do they take nominations for systems? What about people who influenced the industry? That might come about in time over the years. Changes can be made, just like how the first Tron movie wasn't nominated for an Oscar for Best Special Effects, because they thought that using a computer for effects back then was "cheating". Nowadays, try to find a film nominated for Best Effects that didn't use any CGI. If its games only, I don't see either the Vectrex or any of it's games being part of the Hall. I'd think Spike would go up there for its novelty, or Fortress of Narzod for how different a shooter it was. People would really have to know their stuff for the latter though. Anyway, I'd say for next year Space Invaders, Sonic the Hedgehog and some RPG should go in, the latter being something off the Apple II or some other computer platform from those years (late 70s/-mid 80s).

Donkey Kong or Space Invaders didn't make it in first round?

That could be next year With there being literally 10,000 games to choose from that made an impact (maybe even more than that), I can understand how difficult it would be.

I think Civilization deserves to be in there.

I think Civilization deserves to be in there. Agreed! I would also vote for Elite as it kicked off 3D gaming.

I guess it's a pretty fair and diverse list and it honors the chosen criteria pretty well, but I don't particularly like any of these games, and maybe even dislike a couple of them.
I think that the more focused lists that we all come up with and compare are quite a bit more gratifying.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSZ7YmospJoWow! Looking at your comments, 4 games were mentioned that got included this year. Still no systems or people though. And it clarifies my question on whether it was Pong the game or Pong the console. Again, I can't fault them for any of their choices, some just wouldn't have been my first choice and I still believe that there's a conflict when newer games are chosen in part for their popularity over older games which are overlooked.

I thinks it's cool that Nurburgring was a finalist. I agree with the guys in this video it was a pretentious pick, but that's much more useful and interesting to me than the ovarall objective of a video game hall of fame. Wish there were more pretentious picks because i really find this process boring otherwise.

^_ Well maybe Yars' should go in first. .. Star Castle can wait, in my opinion, eventhough it's vector.

Fine. This may be controversial but I do think Atari's E.T should be included for its historical significance.

We could do our own Vectrex Hall of Fame. I've thought that we could do a Vectrex Homebrew Game of the Year for a while as well.
