Hi Guys, I am about to have an Atari 2600 S version 2 (I'd have preferred a woodgrain but ... ). I have the following games, purchased months ago, some of them for fun (mario bros, river raid2, ET, tomcat, forest, cookie monster munch and pigs in space) I may buy Hero, pitfall 1 or 2, river raid, decathlon to play "seriously" Some advice ? I am one of those who likes ET and the fixed version is definitely worth checking out as it fixes many of the issues people had with the game as it was. I have ET, but how determin if it is a fixed version? Is that written on it?

The fixed version of ET is only available as a download online that you can play via emulation or via a Harmony Cart on real hardware.

Hey, this thread is especially for those games which suck!
But seriously Rapetou33, you should get a Harmony cart if you can. There is so much out there for you to try, including fixed versions of old games like E.T. as mentioned already. Some of the best homebrews are available for free too. .. I'm not sure the legality of distributing the old software as ROM, but it seems very public and open with almost everything except Activision games hosted on AtariAge.
.. Most underrated 2600 game in my opinion is Night Driver. It's not even in the Top 100 on the AtariAge members poll. I put it in my top 10. But I feel like there are at least 70 games on that Top 100 which are DEFINITELY worse than Night Driver. Makes no sense to me!
Other top games according to me: Yars' Revenge, (HERO), Subterranea, Montezuma's Revenge, Cosmic Ark, Dragonfire, Moon Sweeper, Fantastic Voyage ..

Night Driver is very simple but it is a good game. I only wish someone hacked it a bit to make some visual improvements to the car and to the scaling of the trees and houses. As it is, though, it adds to what was there on the original arcade game.

I love the 2600, my favorite console next to the Vectrex . I have bought and sold at least 2 of each, and they keep coming back to me. There really isn't a replacement for the simplicity of the 2600. The games on the 2600 have all the gameplay of the later better looking Atari Consoles. There's only a couple reasons I would own a 7800 or 5200. Co-op/Dual Trak Ball centipede on the 7800 and Robotron 2084. I would only buy a 5200 to play Space Dungeon and the Tempest Homebrew. Still very good reasons to own a 7800 and 5200. But in the end I can't justify the cost to own both of these. Maybe next year when I have a spare $600. My kids also love the 2600 and Vectrex. The harmony cart really makes the 2600 a joy to have. I hope to acquire a VecMulti soon. I'm sure it makes the Vectrex a joy as well.
