Interesting-looking unit. Looks like it's just a cordless phone charger/base or something.

It's a cool design and the different colors for it make it unique on its own way.

I'm not seeing the cool factor here. Is it just the Intellivision brand that makes this thing appealing? What does this give me that, say, playing games on my FireTV doesn't? Is it the controller? Maybe someone can tell me why this thing is worth purchasing.

My guess is that it's probably just a modern day console, which makes it cool. And it has Intellivision games, both originals and up-to-date stuff added to them (I think).
I don't see where it's going to sell really big but I could be wrong. It's not Xbox or PlayStation, two of the biggest platforms out there.

Apparently the presale has gone very, very well. So, maybe there is a hunger for something like this out there.

How many have sold, do you know?

Last I heard, over 10,000. After the video was released, Tommy said the preorders skyrocketed, so who knows?

Well, that's decent.
Now, due to Classic Game Room and the like, you'd think if someone would create a new Vectrex...

Well, that's decent. Now, due to Classic Game Room and the like, you'd think if someone would create a new Vectrex... I've thought of this over the years but the glowing CRT and buzz is what makes the Vectrex so unique. The only option we have today is to use glow and persistence effects on an LCD but that's just not the same. Still, it would be cool to have something in the same form factor as the original.

^Yep, as we'd need to have something that plays physical Vectrex carts and all.
Even though it wouldn't be the same with a new, modern display, I'd still take one.

Nope. As with many other things, the pandemic has caused a delay. The current plan is for them to release it in October this year.

I never kept up with this until I started seeing videos on YouTube in regards to it in the last week. If true it's pretty sad what happened to this console. It still isn't out. The CEO, who kept on attacking people that were criticizing the console, got fired and they hired the CEO behind the Coleco Retro Chameleon (that also never came out). The project is supposedly $8 million in debt with the amount of the console's price (if it'd ever get released) nearing some PlayStation console and the price of cartridge and/or digital downloads have also been increased from what was originally stated they would be. They've also had to crowdsource (which they said they wouldn't do) and supposedly let the patent expire to it, so unless that mess has been straightened out they can't even legally release it. This is a real shame especially when I looked it up on Wikipedia. Obviously they would do Intellivison games but they also had Asteroids listed for it as well. Nice to hear some Atari games would be on it (allegedly ), including Yars' Revenge. But they also had listed the mega-classic battle/chess game of Archon, as well as... Toejam and Earl for the Sega Genesis? That's pretty cool they would be including titles for multiple gaming generations. Doesn't look like this will end well though.

Yes, this whole thing became a mess, sadly. I got to see molds of the controllers and the console but it never went past that.

I generally see the re-release of old consoles as a very difficult task. I like the FPGA variants better, where the original hardware concept is preserved, like the ZX Spectrum Next. If new hardware is also used for the new console, all that's really left is the name, which is reminiscent of the old days, and in the end it's a PC in a fancy case. In addition, there is often no big budget for the exclusive titles, so they look like the usual classic clones for the smartphone.
