I just purchased another Vectrex and I am having a sound issue. I thought someone on the forum may have run into this problem. I’m thinking about just replacing the IC but I can’t remember the chip name. Anyway, I only get sound when the volume is turned almost all the way up. If I go all the way up it sounds a bit scratchy for a couple seconds and then it cuts out. A little below max volume and I can hear everything fine. Just below that and nothing. Any insight would be very helpful.

I'd suspect the volume/power pot/switch. Try spraying some contact cleaner in it (with the Vectrex off) and rotate it around a bit in an attempt to clean the pot tracks of dirt.

^Not Vectrex-related, but would spraying contact cleaner (or perhaps compressed air) help with a cracking sound with PC speakers I'm getting?

Thanks for your help Chris. I hope to give this a try over the weekend.

VectorX - yes, possibly. Often the crackling you get when adjusting volume is caused by dirty/worn resistance tracks in the volume potentiometer.
