@peer: From what I can see the user can choose the difficulty level (GAME 1-3) but no longer set the level, right? This is o.k. for me - most important bit is that the highscore (=level) still works. I didn't tell you before but Vec-Man is a hot candidate for this year's Vector War. Oops, it shouldn't be like that. Thanks for reporting this. The level selection should still be there. First menu is for number of players and difficulty (game), then another menu for level selection should appear before the actual game play starts. Will check that later.
Basically, RC1-5 is just for testing various difficulties. I imagine the final release to look more like RC1-4 (please compare) with a fixed difficulty, unless some of you say that difficulty selection should be kept. Opinions?
Vector War candidate? Awsome!!! That would be cool and I would feel very honored
Cheers, Peer

Hi Peer,
I tried Vec-Man out, not sure what version, but it was probably on old one, and I the found it too easy. I would prefer it to have similar difficulty to the arcade Pac-man, i.e. a new player should be able to complete 1, 2 or 3 screens only. These days, I need a quick in and out play time, like real arcade games!
I like the game, it's a lovely implementation. Flicker-free is an important aspect for me, overall screen size less so. In the 90s, I played a lot of Doom on my 286SX25MHz, frame rate was acceptable if the screen size was less than about 100mm horizontal on my 17inch monitor :-)

If possible, could you please try the new RC1-5 version, and choose difficulty (GAME) setting 3? It will probably be not like the arcade version (it is not intended to be), but it should (hopefully) be more difficult than the earlier versions.
Thing is, the game is a bit intended to be played for the long run. It starts out easy, but the later levels will definitely be harder, and the first levels give the player the opportunity to collect some extra lives which will be needed later. Now I am giving away some strategy...
Would be cool to know how RC1-5 feels to you (and to all others who read this).
Cheers, Peer

Just to keep you updated: I have completed RC1-6 of Vec-Man, featuring some minor and some major changes, and some additional elements. It is not yet publically available, as I would really love this to be the final release version. So far I have sent it out for some more testing to just one person, who gave some very good feedback and suggestions regarding RC1-5. Meanwhile I am currently revising the game manual. Many Cheers, Peer

Greetings everyone! The final release of Vec-Man is now available
Please check out the Vec-Man web page which has undergone a complete overhaul. You will find the new binaries in the download section, along with a new overlay and a new version of the game manual. A big thank you to all beta testers and to everybody else who has helped in the process of turning the prototype version into the final release. Enjoy the game! Feedback is very welcome. If you spot any bugs, please let me know and I will be happy to fix them.
Many Cheers, Peer

Congratulations, Peer, to releasing Vec-Man. It was a long way to get to this point. Thank you very much for your effort and all the tweaking and tuning. Great that you got the release of Vec Man finished right before the Vector War!

Just saw this page www.vectrex.co.uk/news.htm currently showing 22nd Oct 2019 update, which has a picture of Vec-Man with a nice overlay. Have you considered making a version of the game that requires a dedicated overlay with the maze on it? I know you tweak the maze between levels, maybe you could have cutouts in the maze that are filled in with vector lines, like doors? If you didn't need to draw the maze, you would save some CPU cycles and then be able to make the playfield bigger. Although maybe you've had enough of coding it by now :-)
