Bob DeCresenzo continues to create new games for the 7800 and now he is working on an original game using the characters from Crystal Castles, one of my most favorite games. This new game, Bentley Bear: Crystal Quest, is a side-scrolling platformer that is intended to work with the 7800 Expansion Module that is soon to be released. You can see details here for the game: www.atariage.com/forums/topic/199637-work-in-progress-bentley-bear-crystal-quest/ There are rom files provided on that page for use with emulators. The game still has no sounds but you can see the graphics and try out the gameplay.

144K?! How big were most of the 7800 games anyway? Wow, he did Scramble? Got a link to that? This one looks great EDIT: found Scramble. Again, "wow" indeed.

Bob is right now the most prolific homebrewer for the 7800. Once the XM comes out, other folks will start releasing games as well. I think typical 7800 games run under 32K.

I have heard quiet whispers about the 7800 Expansion Module for sometime. Good to hear more positive news.

144k was the largest size of any game back in the 80s for the 7800. Dunno if that's the largest they can get.

It is hard to say cost was always a factor with memory.

That castle looks great! Also nice to see what the trees and the gem-stealing creatures look like too.

Bob's done an excellent job with this game, as always. The big difference, though, is that this is a completely original game.

That look likes something you would play on the Nes, Sega Master and even TurboGraphics-16. Maybe even an early Genesis game.
Good screenshots! Very nice! Should help sell the game.

Yeah, platformer games were rare on the 7800 at a time when they were common. This game looks to address that gap. Remember, this game is not done on stock 7800 but one one assuming an XM unit is attached. That means that it has access to more RAM and better sound. By the way, a new ROM was just posted. The game now has a title screen and the ability to continue from where you left off if killed.
