I was wondering about thoughts on these two games? I bought Tac-Scan recently but really haven't played it much and I've played Space Fury a few times on my Colecovision. I have never played the arcade versions and just curious how they rate.

Tac/Scan was downgraded to only having one stage, what with the first one from the arcade game, so you're missing out on what follows next is the first stage again, but in a more 3-D-ish, behind your ships' fleet perspective, which was very cool. After that you got another 3-D stage where you flew your squadron through a tunnel; if you smacked a ship against the tunnel walls you lost it. I'd try getting the ROM and trying it out on MAME if there's a way to adjust the controls, because the game had a rotary knob for control and doesn't always work well on a keyboard (it can be jittery as hell and nearly unplayable). Or you can at least watch the demo to get an idea about the tunnel you're missing Space Fury was ported well. I would say it's a bit easier than the arcade version if I remember correctly but then you should have several skill levels to choose from (I haven't played it since the early 80s).

Thanks for the info and I keep for getting about MAME. It has been hard to find a good reliable cheap joystick to play those games.

Some of the few coin-ops I ever want are a dream list Just don't leave any Sega ones plugged in and on unattended for a long amount of time if you ever get one, supposedly the Sega monitors have a tendency to cause a fire, for some reason. I find that hard to believe but that's what I've heard (maybe there's a fix for them?). Tac/Scan's great though!

Good Advice about Sega monitors. I had not heard about that either but for there age it would make sense. Sometimes I forget how hot a 2600 adaptor can get after playing for a while.

Well even back in the day they supposedly had these problems. But yeah, age doesn't help them any either.

If you play Space Fury on Skill 3 on the CV it's pretty close to the arcade game.
Tac/Scan should be able to port to the CV - just use the Roller Controller instead of the spinner
