I've made a few acquisitions since my last post. For the Nintendo 64, I bought Yoshi's Story; for the PS4, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Shadow Complex and Rainbow Moon from Limited Run Games; for the Game Boy Color, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons; for the Wii U, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD; and for the PS2, Virtua Fighter 4. Quite an assortment, I know.

My Vectrex pick-ups for the last 2 weeks. A lot of new stuff came out but I did manage to grab a copy of Vecmania LE for a fair price. Maybe I'll post a pic of my growing Wii U collection.

^How many Game Boy Color games do you have? Maybe three at most. I'm more of a GBC owner than a collector, it seems.

Lot of great buys and finds. Very nice. Finally found mini Centipede and Qbert on the store shelves.

How do those play? When did those come out?

Play is very good. Came out last year. Already made Pac-Man and Space Invaders but those two do not have color screens. Found in store at Wal-Mart for $19.99 each.

For my birthday earlier this month, I got Horizon Zero Dawn and Yakuza 0 for the PlayStation 4. Currently engrossed in Horizon, so much so that I haven't checked any forums for almost a week. It's a magnificent game with a sprawling open world design and a post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Essentially, modern civilization gets overturned at some point in the future and reverts to tribalism to stay alive. The game occurs several generations after the ancients--which would technically be us--are wiped out and all their histories lost. There are mechanical beasts that roam the wilds, usually modeled on actual prehistoric creatures, and having played for over 30 hours already, there's still no concrete evidence as to who exactly built these machines and why. If anyone has a PlayStation 4, I highly recommend it. If the story fails to pull you in for whatever reason, I find the gameplay to be endlessly satisfying, so long as there is some new corner of the map to explore or machines to hunt.

Great your finding modern games with such depth, Wyldephang. Horizon sounds like a fun game.
Thank you for the information, Darrin9999.
I have been sitting on the fence about buying an old Coleco tabletop Frogger. I appreciate the simplicity of these new mini arcades and the price is more reasonable. It will be nice to have Pac-Man in color as well.

I finally found a PC joystick that I like and that works well with my analog-gameport-to-digital-db9-converter: It works great for Yars' Revenge, very good for some others and not so good for Moonsweeper. I wasn't sure how the multiple buttons and joysticks would pan out (eh "pin out"), but I suppose it does so in the ideal orientation for me. The right stick is the functional one and the button just above it is the fire button on Atari. .. The left stick is only spring centered on the x-axis so that's why the right stick is better. Then the right button is best because of its proximity to the right stick. Here is how I hold it: It's definitely a new look and feel Atari stick for me and I'm surprised and excited for it to actually work out. .. I probably posted pics and comments earlier in this thread about the TG Enjoysticks that I love to play VCS with. I had bought the gameport converter in order to get more analog-thumbstick-like options of that nature, but it turns out most gameport era PC joysticks are big flight sticks. I had gone to some extra effort to buy what looked like an exception, (shipped from Brazil), an older style PC stick, but it turned out to require a manual calibration in BASIC or DOS on the computer, obviously not possible on 2600. .. Eventually maybe I will repackage the working portion of this dual stick controller into a smaller enclosure that makes more sense for my purposes. The dual stick multiple button enclosure is cool, but it will never be functional for me as is, especially with the left stick centering x but not y.

A brief rundown of my more recent acquisitions for consoles past and present: My latest purchase is The Warriors for PS2, a pseudo-sandbox action/beat-'em-up game by Rockstar, the developers of Grand Theft Auto. As such, the gameplay is reminiscent of GTA, though not derivative enough to be labeled a clone. The game has a fun two-player co-operative mode, which is what attracted my brother and I to the campaign several years ago. Aesthetically, I think the game is more effective at presenting a gritty, large-scale urban mise-en-scene than any of the GTA games, where the environment is more surrealistic. The Warriors presents a city gripped in its social and moral decay; when you beat the snot out of someone, the action is at least rendered sensible by its backdrop. Before The Warriors, my more recent video game purchases were Ms. Pac-Man for the Sega Genesis, and Yoshi and Gun.Smoke for NES. Around the time of Black Friday, I bought a few PS4 games: Resident Evil 7, Street Fighter IV and Mass Effect: Andromeda. And I received as a gift Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) for Christmas. Overall a fairly productive year for gaming, though I haven't had the time to enjoy them all.

Before The Warriors, my more recent video game purchases were Ms. Pac-Man for the Sega Genesis, That's awesome, having the Arcade, Strange, Big and Mini mazes to choose from, along with co-op and competitive choices with two players simultaneous. I bought that with my Genny back in the day and it stayed in print for five years, maybe even longer than that.

Ms. Pac-Man was one of the games, if memory serves correctly, that you recommended to me several years back when I started collecting for the Genesis. It took me some time to get around to buying it, but I'm pleased to finally add it to my collection. A note to anyone who owns this game: If you try playing it with a six-button controller, hold down the Mode button (to enter three-button mode) before starting up the game, as the controls are spotty in six-button mode.
