So here it is , as promised (but later than I hoped) 1.5 -Made bird brighter -Added Support for Vectrex standard high score -Fixed another high score bug where it would reset to a lower value sometimes. -Reduced the maximum score required to win, its now easier to finish the game! -Added new score name ratings -Added new win screen (let me know if you get to it!!) Veccy_Bird_V1_5.zip (contains both versions)

Ha ha! Really nice! You're lucky that there's no VecStore, you would have be banned for sure! I'll try it right now EDIT : I just played for 10 minutes (achieving the incredible high score of 13 ), I neither played "flappy bird" (nor "Piou piou contre les cactus"), but it looks like a good "porting" to the Vectrex. Only problem I saw: it seems that the "best score" is always reset to 0 each time you launch a new game, even if you don't power off the Vectrex (so I can't provide a screenshot for my incredible high score of 13 ).

Post your score and rating Also let me know if it goes crazy when you first boot... on my real hardware it I seem to get a stuck button and the bird flies up to the top of the screen constantly . But it goes away after I press the buttons a lot and never returns. I don't know if its my hardware or that I am checking the buttons at the wrong time after cold booting into the game.

I had no problem with the buttons on the real hardware, only the high score always reseting to zero (the reason why I can't provide a proof for my incredible high score of 13 ).

Thanks for the VeccyBird, mikiex! Graphics is nice and collision detection works excellent. :-) I've tried playing it on ParaJVE emulator and found the game very hard. Best score was 2. I'll try on the real hardware, soon.

Thanks Luitoine, well spotted, I've fixed that bug, download it again. - I think I must of written that code when I was tired. I was overwriting the ascii version of the score when going back to the menu.. As well as your high score you have to remember your rating name it gives you as it doesn't store that this is why I let the score stay up after death until you press a button(after waiting for gameover to fade up).

I probably didn't spend enough time working out the levels- just that they are physically possible.. as its not random like flappy bird. In theory its possible to complete the game - though I doubt anyone will. I could make an easier version (or difficulty setting)

Thanks for VeccyBird mikiex.
Works on ParaJVE. Works on my real Vectrex on the table.
Real Vectrex is more pleasant to play on.
:-)

Works fine on real Vectrex 7ADB ! There is constant white noise in the background, migth not be noticable on a buzzing vectrex. I never played the original, but there are ways of destroying a vectrex with software: having the beam burn holes in the screen and/or giving an potentially insanely frustrating game to people with low anger tolerance. Now otherwise my Vectrex should end up like one of these smartphones on youtube playing fappy bird... www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD-nzHy2DdU... either have to stop getting hammered or my vectrex will;-) good job! and under 4k - yay:-)

I randomly jammed values into the sound registers until it worked. So I probably left something set or unset. Really I have no experience of coding the AY and I wrote this game quite fast. There are plenty of hard games on the vectrex, maybe next time I'll make something more relaxing

I guess it could come with a warning label on it: WARNING: THE AUTHOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR VECTREX, PETS, SIGNIFICANT OTHERS, FAMILY, ROOMMATES, OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER IF VECTREX IS THROWN ACROSS A ROOM AND/OR THROUGH A WINDOW DUE TO RESULTING TEMPER TANTRUMS WHILE PLAYING THIS GAME.
