Thanks scallen. No, I will not open a mailing or a preorder list for every release. What about 50 ppl on my "list" would like to preorder a game that is limited to 25 Units? I will not choose who of the 25 ppl can order the game and who not. That's why: Who writes first get a game, everything else would be unfair.

And that's why pretty much no one likes limited releases any more...

And that's why pretty much no one likes limited releases any more... That and the fact playing a limited release may be impossible for some. Especially if the limited release is limited to a single copy. But that is the way life goes sometimes eh? Just think how much sweeter the acquisition of that limited release feels when you finally obtain it....

Although at least none of the single copy releases so far has been anything but variants of existing releases, so in that sense, not having some of them doesn't really irk me. If I do manage to get my arse to Eurocon this year (I need to find out how to register etc I guess), then I may well bring a few of the limiteds with me to demo...

I'm surprised how fast there all were gone without any promotion. You have a lot of Vectrex fans and Paparazzi stalking you!

And that's why pretty much no one likes limited releases any more... Limited editions are a pain in the a** for all: Developer, collectors, and players. Some Collectors and players can't purchase a limited edition and have to wait till a limited edition appears at ebay. And then the size of the pockets rules. Games are totally overpaid which attract more and more speculants. I'm pretty sure that there are people around who buy any new homebrew game by default to sell them later for big money. For the developer shipping and handling all the orders is quite some effort. So a limited release looks like a good solution. But in fact it's not because with small runs developers cannot earn much money unless the developers sell their games for a high price. Higher initial prices will result in even higher resale prices. In the end the money will be paid to the speculants and resellers, not to the original author. The time/money and time/end user satisfaction ratios for small runs are much worse than the ratios for larger runs. But I can understand if developers are more interested in programming new games than packing parcels and licking stamps. There are various alternatives: - A free binary releases (in this case the author does not earn any money) - A "free" binary releases with voluntary donations (something that might be worthwhile trying) - A "free" binary with crowd funding - Outsourcing the production to a second person like Madtronix, or Ratpack, or... - ... There are alternatives for developers and I'm sure that all collectors and players would much appreciate if limited editions below 100 copies would no longer happen unless the game is just a variation of a widely available game.

If the original author wants it locked I can, but until then others could still have opinions to offer.
