This unique (most of them were as it was!) game hasn't gotten any love yet on this site, so I figured I would post these A bit of a different take on the multi-directional shooter genre, although you're enclosed like on one of the variations for Space Wars. Not a huge fan of it but I played a game of it whenever I found it at a game room back in the day. Tardis versions--this guy did two of them. Screenshots look a bit like Geometry Wars (or is that the other way around? Which was first?) I haven't tried these out yet, just giving a heads up on here. Off to add them to the vector links thread!

I love the Omega Race cockpit version. The graphics reflected up to the glass is sensational.

I've never seen a cockpit version either (but I have seen a cocktail version, though). Man, I would love to have an original Omega Race arcade machine. Or Star Wars. Don't really have room for it...but I'd FIND it.

Well, with Space Rawks being released several weeks ago, I decided to download the Omega Race games first (since I only just realized I had never played them ), but then my mom's computer might be dead, which the more current one is on there, so I'll just post about the 2006 version right now (I wasn't able to try the 2009 version yet)... Not much has been changed to the original, but rather added to, as you can play with a neat color version (you can see two screenshots of the game here) with a starry background, along with playing in the original black and white-type mono graphics if you wish. There's also various screen sizes to choose from and an online high score save as well, along with maybe a few other things I'm forgetting. All I know about the 2009 version is that it's easier, as the scores are much higher (here, you barely thrust at all and you go all over the screen!).

All I know about the 2009 version is that it's easier, as the scores are much higher (here, you barely thrust at all and you go all over the screen!). That was my main reason to remake it (again) - I felt the playership was too bouncy and uncontrollable. From a aesthetic point of view there's also the thing with counters for speed on the X&Y axes which would not always run out at the same time, so sometimes the ship would kinda slide sideways to a rest (I changed my way of doing this from then on). I'm really proud of the 2009 version though. I feel it's more playable, and I think my enhancements works pretty well without feeling out of place (the homing mines and the ship that can shoot through the centerbox).

Meant to post about this a while back, but we had the computer crash and all.
Yep, the control is easier on the 2009 version, but it's still challenging though!

You're right, but while many of my games are pretty hard (some a bit too hard, if I have to be honest) I think the overall difficulty is very balanced in this game. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

while many of my games are pretty hard (some a bit too hard, if I have to be honest) Buggerman! But then, the original Bagman was very difficult as well. I also like the colored graphics.

For anyone interested - I've updated my Omega Race 2009 game a bit. I got a comment on YouTube recently about it " not looking retro enough", so I've now added a monochrome mode and a "pure line" mode. Plus a couple of other tweaks too. Didn't take more than a couple of hours Saturday afternoon. The page is here: tardis.dk/wordpress/?page_id=181I hope someone else will enjoy it - and not just the one person that inspired me to update it.
