Couple additions this time around: Diagonal shots. I want to stick with 4 way movement only - at least for now - due to the effect it has on gameplay, especially when interacting with the background. The big change is that the playfield data is now in RAM. Currently the whole level is 1 page (255 bytes) in RAM. I may regret dedicating so much available RAM but only putting some of the level (ie; the visible screen) in RAM would mean updating from ROM on the fly and I don't really want to do that because cycles. This means I can generate levels based on tiles or procedurally. Rather than a dedicated page of ROM (255 bytes) for each level. That adds up quickly (16 levels - 4k). It also means that levels design is not static. In Specter, the playfield is changeable but doing so involves actually switching to an entirely different level design which eats up ROM (see above but even more so because of the optimizations). With this engine I can add/remove walls at any time. So now shooting walls will destroy them. Attachments:SHOOT.BIN (28 KB)

Yeah, I have a handful of flyers but that's the best one. Was on my desk at work for a long time. Moral panics are awesome Google "arcade flyer" on eBay. Of course, they didn't used to be twenty bucks a pop for anything good...

I've been to gaming expos before where people have sold them; one of them I used to remember back in the day when he worked at a local Tilt game room (you can see a pic of him and some of the stuff he was selling that year here).

I only ever picked up a few (hindsight, &etc) of my favorite games. Death Race is one of the nicest graphics I've ever seen on these. Some are almost as nice: But many are kinda meh: I never really got much deeper into them because the intersection of "great game" and "great looking flyer" is difficult.

Thanks! Speaking of which, how's Death Chase coming? This didn't make in to the photo in the collection brag thread, but you might appreciate: (Advertising flyer for the arcade machine) Nice flyer! Death Chase has been finished for some time now but its really the bonus game/b-side to Jims 'NOX' (Atari Sprint clone) so it won't see release until Jim has some free time to finish off his package design and get the overlays printed. I have a 3-game compilation cart which will be ready in a few weeks though, just looking at packaging right now. And I've been a little distracted by some (secret ) Vectrex hardware I've been tinkering with.

How difficult was it to find a printer who could handle the job? And I've been a little distracted by some (secret ) Vectrex hardware I've been tinkering with. Handheld Vectrex, amirite?

I haven't had any overlays printed yet but I found a guy locally who says they should not be a problem. Screen printed onto lexan. I think its Kokovec on here who's doing the handheld Vectrex. My own project is far simpler

I think the design uses a raster display, much like his Vectrex -> TV adapter.
