I think it's "mini" compared to a full-size vector arcade machine.

Not sure why the board needs to be lit. But I LOVE it! I know right? As a person who's 90% function over form, I always struggle with "why do this cool thing when there's no practical advantage?" So I sometimes try to force that voice out of my head and make some time for play. Nightowl does refer to it as "LED fun" after all. But I felt the same way... "Not sure why the heatsink and flyback needs to be painted. But I LOVE it!"

I'm still on the fence about whether I like this or not. Making a mini vector video game from a mini vector video game.
You said you were making it for someone to auction. If you started in September and meant CGE Expo 2014 (the video says GCE 2014 - Growth Capital Expo?) you had a week to complete it.

Thinking about your bios hack last night - it occurred to me - you could probably upgrade the buggy Minestorm to Minestorm II while you're at it since they're on the same chip!

Where do you get "bios hack?" I saw a custom cartridge. The video shows a boot screen that all carts do, with (c) GCE. (c) GCE is hard-coded in the bios with Minestorm.

I read "custom boot screen" as the system boot screen - aka the "entertaining new ideas" startup screen. You read it as cartridge boot screen. It could be either.
Even if I misunderstood - it still got the wheels turning and makes me want to dump the contents of the Sharp LH236301 to find out what's possible...

You have the right idea. I could easily dump the Sharp for you, considering that I have it open and available to me easily. The idea of changing the main game or updating it, I am on the same page bud. It was one of the things I was going to attempt to try, then make available for others, but it seems like there is some resistance. Yes there is a boot screen and I have done nothing special according to others, but I wanted to have some fun with this and make it a bit different, So I changed it because I can!
Why do I refer this as a mini and not an full size arcade?
Well its not a full size arcade, and its definitely sits on a table. Its only slightly larger that original and its way under the 20" that would make it a bartop arcade. So its a mini arcade compared to a large full size please lets move on. This will end up with an ipad mini not being a mini either. I would prefer to argue over technological failures and achievements not was size they are, get my drift. Gce was a mistype it was supposed to be CGE Expo in Vegas. Where you there by chance? Unfortunately the Vectrex " MINI Arcade" was not done by then, so it couldn't make the trip.
Just want to have some fun with this, IESPOSTA you need to play some protector!

My Canadian Vectrex does not say Entertaining New Ideas like my USA ones, so there are different system code. I would love to have one that doesn't say Entertaining New Ideas, has the fixed Minestorm II, and has (c) GCE removed (or maybe just the GCE removed after the (c) symbol so boot screens still look ok, but homebrew screens look better). I like the homebrew that puts squares over the (c) GCE, however it is still visible...
Things almost lined up where I would have been in Vegas at the time of CGE, but no, I was not there. if AtariAge were to attend, I would plan to go, as I would love to see my two games being played in public.

What games are they? Are they available? Send me a rom dump if there are none out there and I can change some boot things around for you.

My Atari 2600 game programs are: DK Arcade 2600 & FlappyFlappy will be available on cart with instruction sheet very soon in the AtariAge Store, and the linked ROM is the full, final game. The link to DK Arcade 2600 is a demo that ends after the 4th level. The full game is still being added to. I don't have a rom dump for the Canadian Vectrex bios. I don't know if it is available.
If I could make a custom bios, I would remove the GCE letters from the boot up screen, change the 3 start-up notes to "ta-da" ( an imitation of a fanfare, used typically to call attention to an impressive entrance or a dramatic announcement), and change Minestorm to the fixed Minestorm 2 code.

My Canadian Vectrex does not say Entertaining New Ideas like my USA ones, so there are different system code. I have one of these - It's an MB machine, not GCE. I'll get a checksum tonight if this is an undocumented thing (?) I'd assumed all MB machines were like that.

Hey Guys been busy on a couple of builds. I am working on the vectrex arcade again and will try to update tonight. Lots of new things in the mix. I really like the way the thread is leaning towards the cool stuff.
Speaking of checksums, Does anyone know if the checksum(s) are calculated in a certain area(s) if so could you provide the hex address of start checkum byte to ending so I can manually correct the checksum if there is any!
I may have access to MB Vectrex will know shortly.

Sounds promising.
Are you having trouble logging in, or just not bothering for the moment?
