Hi all, just on the off chance somebody is looking to sell away from eBay, I'm looking for a console in good condition, ideally boxed with instructions. I'm in the UK so need a UK/EU machine (although would a US one work with a UK plug?). If you have any boxed games with overlays, so much the better, as I'm looking to start my Vectrex collection.
Unsure if I have PM access straight away, just in case I don't, my email address is andygarton at btinternet dot com.
Thanks in advance.

I'm in the UK. I got my 1st Vectrex on ebay (junk, but I should have done some homework), and my current one (fine). Ebay's ok providing you're close enough to the seller to give it the once over. Welcome aboard.
(Ps. There's a lot of Americans here. You'll get used to them.)

Well if a Frenchman is saying "frog" and a German is saying "kraut", can hardly complain

Welcome! Glad SJ can give you advice about power differences. Think of it like fishing and you will do fine. Just when your ready to give up the perfect system will come along. Wish you the best.

It'll need 240 volts in the UK. What are the US ones?

110V. Internal transformer of course, so you'd need a stepdown to run it in the UK. 30W would do, I use that capacity stepdown to turn on my Kouso.

I'd love to have a UK Vectrex one of these days. It would be nice to have has a spare! Do they go for about the same amount of money there? usually you can get a loose vectrex in the us for $100-$150.

Auctions in the UK that are for collection only typically go for £60-80. I would definitely waiting for one close enough to collect in person as I don't think they ship too well!
From monitoring eBay for auctions close to me I have noticed that about 80-90% of them come up for sale in the NE England (Newcastle, Sunderland, Gallowshields, etc.) I can only guess that when Woolworths had the big sell off when it was discontinued that they were mostly shipped off up north!
So ANdy, if you live in the NE you're in luck... otherwise you're in for a bit of a wait potentially.
You want to make sure the controller with the console works well as they're expensive on their own if you want to replace them... alternatives are available but it's nice to have at least one original.

£60-£80 is a bit optimistic for the current market imo, not seen any working ones go for under a hundred recently. I don't mind taking the risk of shipping though, when packed properly these things are generally ok.
I do actually have a working machine but it's a bit tatty and I don't have the box/manual/overlay which I'd really like. I don't mind waiting and I'm sure the right thing will come up on eBay eventually, just wondered if anybody here was selling as I'd much prefer that to a random eBay deal!

I bought a couple in the second half of last year, for £60 and £65 ... albeit unboxed... boxed adds a lot Maybe prices and interest in the Vectrex is increasing ... both of the ones I bought started with a low price so that was the price they were bid up to and both were collection only which keeps the price down. cNp

I think the real benefit of living close to the seller is not so much to save on shipping (although I personally wouldn't trust one sent through the post), but to check the condition and to make sure it works properly. The duffer I bought worked ok when I viewed it but that's because it had been warmed up. From a cold start it had vectors all over the place. (Three hundred mile round-trip for that one, too. Hey-ho. Live and learn.)
