I ran across something rather interesting the other day that I thought was too good not to share
This was an arcade release from 1981 called the 4 Fun In 1. I had never heard of this until now and wonder what the motherboard looked like, due to it having (obviously) four bootlegged games in one unit.
Galaxian Pt2 (or whatever part it was) was Galaxian, obviously, and it had the fewest changes to it, like all the aliens being one solid color, plus your ship really scooted across the screen (if anyone has played Atari 2600 Communist Mutants from Space then you know what I'm talking about). The aliens' behavior was changed, as most of them really swept across the screen big time from side to side; originally the bottom two green rows of aliens didn't have much of an arc. You got several more flagships this time around: after a few levels, there's nearly an entire row of them at the top!
Scramble Pt 3 (or whatever part it was) is obviously Scramble. They got a bit clever with redoing the graphics on this one: with the mystery bases, they're now buildings that say "HQ", plus the fuel tanks look like gauges on cars (saying "GAS" at the top). One big change though was that, with the machines only having one fire button, the bombs and lasers functioned at the same time.
Then there's The Ghost Muncher Part 5 (or whatever part it was). Don't think too hard as to what game that was. Yeah, Pac-Man, with THE most ghastly colors out of all the games. The "ghost muncher" looked creepy too, having two large black eyes (imagine someone wearing sunglasses without rims; yikes!). The mazes were changed, having two more escape tunnels, plus with every other maze there are no walls, along with another escape tunnel running vertically being added to those.
Now, with Galactic Convoy, they really outdid themselves, giving Centipede a sci-fi theme, as the mushrooms became ringed planets, your blaster was the one from Galaxian, then the centipede itself became a spaceship with a pilot seen in the cockpit! Really different.
The most hilarious part though is the warning signs during the attract mode, stating the games were an "original work" and they would pursue "prosecution" for "unauthorized duplication" of their beloved, original machine. Bullcrap! The nerve of some people.
Anyway, I have more to add to this subject later, just starting off with that. What other bootlegs has everyone else encountered?
