I don't care about the original box or any overlays. I don't need a 2nd controller. I don't need any extra games. Instructions would be nice as a bonus though. I would like one that has recently been reconditioned (replaced caps etc) and working perfectly and in cosmetic complete great shape. The controller must be working 100% properly. I would like a non-buzzing latest model (a buzzing one would do my head in) but I will only be using a VecMulti Flashcart or equivalent in other words - ROMs only if that makes any odds to which model I can get.
The problem is that I am in Japan and also I can only do a USA version as I think Japan uses the same voltage?
I have a large collection of mint complete boxed Japanese NEOGEO AES cartridges to make a trade deal with. They are doubles for me as I just bought them when they were cheap about 10 year ago in Japan out of something to collect but already have them in the UK! Madness. They don't ever get played so it's just a waste.
If you want to put a deal together then please email me at:
fanitsu@hotmail.com
Cheers.

The non-buzzing models belong to the highest serial numbers, and different internal vectrex rom version. I think there are in the Scandinavian market, mainly.. The buzzing is not a big hassle; in fact lot of ppl think it is an inherent feature of the Vectrex playing experience. You could easily accustom yourself In the other hand, there is a hardware tunning for change a buzzing vectrex into a non-buzzing model, I think the user jasonbar made several of them.

My guess is that you find the non-buzzing Vectrex all over the world. At least we have some here in Germany, too. The serial numbers are 31xxxxx but it's not a 100% rule. See old topic at rec.games.vectrex and VectrexRoli's video "'No buzz' Vectrex and other versions" for more information.

I was reading a time ago about this issue, I think there is a related thread by here, too. By curiosity hcmffm, is your serial number 31 1xxxx? In my research, I noted serial numbers 4xxxxxx and 311xxxx for the latest rom checksum 7ADB (I have a german vectrex, 30xxxxx, and buzzing) But certainly it is not a clean outcome: By my hands two usa-vectrex were, and I saw the "Taiwan" made was very much noisier than the "Hong-Kong" made... japjac here a link for the hardware mod, if interested (credits at end of document) quiet_vectrex.pdf

I set a kind of red line into the 31xxxxx serial numbers. There are 31xxxxx buzzing vecs, but it seems they are all 31 0xxxx machines. However, there are no-buzzing vecs reported since 31 1xxxx serial number... hcmffm in your rec.games.vectrex link you can read the user "cube66" talk about buy three no-buzz vectrex, in the 31xxxxx serial line The last post with complete serials reveals they are all 31 1xxxx Maybe the key, and the real frontier, is in this third serial number digit

My no buzz Vectrexes were 310xxxx and 311xxxx:
3105807 (Model No. 3000-G1-EURO Made in Hongkong) 3108554 (Model No. 3000-G1-EURO Made in Hongkong) 3111338 (Model No. ? Made in ?)
IIRC VectrexMad (or was it Mayhem?) investigated this in detail and even wrote an article about this. Perhaps he can shed more light on this.

Yes, I know there are good ppl looking for more light. Me myself very curious. The VectrexMad work with serial numbers is a great effort. The more serial numbers within that range has scored, more light in this issue will. In base to your numbers, my theory still being possible if we tighten the noose to the 3105xxx limit... I admit very intrigued with all around "The Obscure System"

I would like a non-buzzing latest model (a buzzing one would do my head in) Seems to me that a lot of EUROPEAN vectrex are non-buzzing ones The problem is that I am in Japan and also I can only do a USA version as I think Japan uses the same voltage? Not an obstacle : you only need a transformer and a plug adapter.

Such a lot of great information, thank you chaps. Got my heart set on a USA version as it is a USA format after all so I imagine that I will have to get a pre-modded non-buzz one. Considering that I am after a reconditioned one too then this makes perfect sense while they are at it. I do want a same as Japan voltage machine too. The Vectrex is at a premium in Japan compared to the West and this is the exact opposite regarding Japanese NEOGEO AES games so that's why I figured someone out there could do very well out of doing a deal with me. I found a very old video I made of some of the Japanese NEOGEO games I was buying as doubles at the time to get an idea of what I have: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9E5Tl9dVLQ(Toward the end). Cheers.
