Anyone have an original 5 1/4" diskette of The Oregon Trail by MECC?

Hey, how difficult is that to get into for a first time player? Because that was actually here at a gaming expo I went to in November, set up on an Apple II, and I was wondering if it would take something like 20 minutes building profiles of characters (or whatever the game has in it, I'm not exactly sure) before I could actually play the thing.

It's not difficult at all. You first have to select the role of your character (banker, carpenter, farmer) and there's an option to learn about the differences between the roles. Then you have to create names for all of your party members. Once you've done those (a matter of minutes) then it's a matter of selecting the time of year you wish to begin your journey and then stock up on supplies for the trip.

Thanks, I might give it a whirl then if it's at the next expo, since I was always curious about that and wanted to give that classic a shot By the way, have you seen where you can play this online, at least? www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.htmlI sent an e-mail to my expo group to see if the guy who had brought the Apple II and game had that or another copy for sale (or anyone in the group who had one up for grabs, for that matter) and some guy sent the above. So there's that much, at least. And you're looking for the originals, and not necessarily a copy, right?

Correct, it needs to be a legitimate version for use at the Louisville Arcade Expo. While it may be considered abandonware by the community, the current copyright holder still produces new versions of the game for various platforms.
