Last Guardian will release tomorrow for the PS4! Is anyone planning to play this game?
The game was first announced many years ago and began development as a PS3 game. 7 - 9 years later it is a PS4 game.
.. Reviews of the game are not universally positive. In addition to wonderful animation and a compelling central concept there seems to be a consensus that the game has some significant technical issues. One review I read also cited design issues.
I'm not sure how everyone is credited at this point, but the game was at least originally conceived and developed by the same director and studio who made Ico and Shadow of the Colossus for PS2, both incredible one of a kind games. Those first two games have garnered a cult following which I certainly consider myself part of.
Personally I was never sold on the concept of Last Guardian and I am pretty disappointed to learn that that is the main strength of the game. I'm glad it actually released and I'm sure I will end up playing it somehow eventually (don't have a PS4 of my own currently). But being kind of a mash-up combination of the first two games, now on a much more powerful platform (and I presume a big production budget), I would have expected this game to be their most polished game to date. Looks like that isn't the case.
.. One of the things I'm reading about is camera problems, something Colossus was notorious for. But the camera didn't seem so bad to me in that game so maybe Last Guardian won't either.
