This thread is for games where you *supposedly* get rewarded for something in a game, or even beat it, but then once you end up doing something that had evaded you for a while, once you get it you end up going "that's IT?".
I only just FINALLY beat this monster of a game called Pixel Dungeon this morning after playing it for a year and a half, maybe more. It's really hard, although I'm playing the Undegraded Chromebook version, not the original, as there's some things missing from it that would help, such as a "Scroll of Wipeout" I ran across on the wiki for the game that isn't in my version. It would've been a quicker victory too if there was something fairly simple I could've figured out a while before, then felt really dumb once I discovered it, getting further and further into the game over the last few months as i applied that help (duh!).
So I finally beat it. There are several "Challenges" that you couldn't unlock until you beat the game, which I thought was unfair, as they should open up once you get to the final dungeon, I've thought. After all, I think with only beating the second boss, the next time you start a game with that character you get a book that'll help with things, like with one character, if you choose the Warlock setting, with each time he injures an enemy he'll get a health point or two; with killing an enemy, he'll swallow its soul for more health as well. This helps a lot and makes him the best character.
So, of course, the ending isn't very good in the first place, along with there being more endings, plus I think you get an actual final one if you go all the way back to the beginning, I'm not sure! So I'll have to try that if I can ever beat the final boss again (sigh).
So I click on the Challenges, as I'd been wondering for a year now (more or less) what they are.
Well, turns out they make the game even HARDER! Into Darkness restricts your sight, Barren Land means there is NO food whatsoever (you need food to increase your health!), something in regards to armor means you start off with none, etc. Good lord. Not playing those. Not worth the wait, either, just to get the game-ending amulet! Sheesh. And here I thought they'd be some mini-games or something, but they're just the same damn game but at an even harder setting on an already very hard game? Really?
Any others y'all can think of?
