Wowzers What started off as a little experiment turned into a full project. Inspired by Dark Tower and Dragonstomper on the Atari 2600, Quartz's Quest is a small turn based RPG in which you play as a dragon. Dungeons and items are randomized and the controls are - I think - intuitive enough. I'm sure everyone says this, and I know I've said it myself multiple times but I am planning to make a physical release eventually. It's just not in the budget right now! Anyway, you can find the game on itch.io here: denebola-interactive.itch.io/quartzs-questI can release the source code if anyone wanted to see it and if you think you might learn something from it. It is commented just enough for me to understand it though, and the sound routines in particular are a mess. But hey! Check it out if you'd like, and any feedback is appreciated!

Hi, I am always looking for sources and "free" games. If you like/consent I will gladly add the game (and the sources if you are willing) to the Vide distribution.
Regards Malban

I beat it. What a great little RPG. I mapped out everything in excel so I took longer than I should. Sign me up for a physical release.

I am planning to make a physical release eventually. It's just not in the budget right now! Nice game! Is it final now?
For a physical release there is the possibility to get it published by Packrat. www.packratvg.com
Thank you!

In fact, I used Vide to make the game! I wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as I did without the vector editor I think... And I would be glad to have my game and source code included. When I have a chance I will try to get the source files in a presentable state and include it with the game. I beat it. What a great little RPG. Oh, that sounds like a much easier option than trying to publish it myself. I will look into this! I still want to see if any bugs pop up- particularly a rare one where the dungeon bosses don't show up. I think I've fixed it, but time will tell.

Just downloaded and tried this out, first impressions are very positive, there's quite a bit of variation and depth in there and I'll be playing more for sure. interested to see how it randomises and varies game to game. Very cool, great work!

Playing it with the Fortress of Narzod overlay works quite well and fits the theme I think I've finished the game now too... do you prefer feedback here or in a PM?

I downloaded and played on Vectrex last night. It plays really nicely and has lots of gratifying features and sequences. Thank you for making and sharing it.
If you were looking for kind of an artistic critique I took some notes. Basically I think there are some great aesthetic concepts in place, which go hand in hand with the subject and the whole idea and experience of the game, but that they could just be developed a little further and articulated, mostly visually.
As far as gaming and functionality I thought it was very balanced and resolved, a casual difficulty level that suits me personally very well, and a nice scale to it all around.
The text inventory screen flickers and buzzes pretty badly on my Vectrex. Otherwise everything seemed stable.
Love the sound, (including silence). Love the bosses. Love the explosions when an enemy dies.
It would be excellent if you could get an Imagic style fantasy illustration or cinematic photo for the label!

Since no one said it before, it's official: QUARTZ'S QUEST -physical- will be released soon by VECTOR REPUBLIC. Seems that the physical game will get some kind of "enhancements" for the release. Can't wait. www.vectorrepublic.co.uk/

It's true, Vector Republic are releasing an enhanced Quartz's Quest as a physical edition Easiest way to see pics is probably on Twitter as no login needed like Facebook:
Full info below... I'm close enough to having everything ready that I am happy to start taking some pre-orders European style boxes are with the printer and due to be ready on 5th Feb, then will be sent on to me which shouldn't be too much later. PCBs are on their way from Sweden so barring large delays in customs they shouldn't be too far away either. With the increase in cost of materials and post/customs getting the bits to me as well as the increase in postage to buyers and potential for customs/VAT additions in Europe I've had to make a couple of changes to my previous ideas. I was going to have a special edition with map and coloured cart but i don't think this is the right time to be creating even higher cost games that people feel compelled to buy for completeness but that would end up costing an amount to get in hand that I'm not comfortable with. As such there will only be the two main versions of the game, MB and GCE styles. All games have the same overlay but different box, manual, and cart label. The Vectrex had no region lock or PAL/NTSC issues so both versions work on any Vectrex. PayPal links are set to Product/Goods so you and I have added protection as well as the games being well packed in a sturdy box and sent Tracked and insured. The games are £39 each and postage is £5.80, £11.80, and £17.00 to UK, EU, US/Canada/Rest of World respectively. Postage is the same for two copies as one, after which it goes up a little... get in touch via PM if ordering more than one copy. If you'd like to pre-order for a late February ship date then please use the links below... there will be plenty of copies to meet demand for a couple years at least so don't worry about missing out UK www.paypal.com/paypalme/vectorrepublic/44.80EU www.paypal.com/paypalme/vectorrepublic/50.80USA/Canada/Rest of World www.paypal.com/paypalme/vectorrepublic/56.00I will assume you want MB style in UK/EU and GCE version in US/Rest of World unless you state otherwise in your payment. If you use the wrong location link I will just refund your entire payment to keep things simple. -- A quick list of the improvements/additions in this physical version over the "name your own price" digital version that came out a couple years back: - A number of gameplay balancing changes to enhance the challenge and improve the difficulty curve as well as replayability - Many graphical enhancements and additions to both the overworld and dungeons - A custom fantasy style font added to replace the system font - Optimised text routines to eliminate flicker and slowdown on text heavy screens (by the genius that is Malban!) - Original music added to the title page composed by Jon Bennett who did the Frontier music - Interface improvements in shops to avoid buying inferior kit - Text changes and improvements as well as formatted better to work with the overlay - Bug fixes
