Pretty dumb, AtGames.

This is probably one of the reasons why their plug and play units are on sale for real cheap. I just got one today at Wal-Mart. Others should join in since the 2600 version of Bump 'n Jump (or I assume that's what it is) took the cover of the box but renamed it "Burnin' Rubber" on the unit. Strange how they would allow themselves to be sued, yet I assume their Flashback Atari units were licensed (although they could be crap; a Pac-Man one they released had really good reviews).
I'll post more about it in another thread later.

The Atari Flashback units have mostly been well received. They did release a new one (the Atari Flashback X) late 2019.

I just wonder what the hell they were thinking though. If some of their stuff is legit (I assume it is), then why the bootlegged stuff?

That's a good question and who knows what the answer is.

This is just a guess but the lawsuit may not be due to alleged theft but more along the lines of issues surrounding licensing terms. There's allot of nuance in licensing contracts that sometimes are prone to misinterpretation.

^Yeah, as I think the Bandai/Namco and AtGames units in question are in regards to an "unauthorized" (as said in the link) model that Walmart agreed to sell, hence why I only saw it there (Target and Best Buy didn't have anything from AtGames), plus at a reduced price. WalMart could've been subpoeaned over that as well.
On a side note, it probably doesn't make Bandai look good to the consumer if someone got an AtGames unit and wondered why it was crap. On the one I got, most of the games play decently but the programming for Space Invaders; good grief. You can still move your laser base after it gets destroyed (!?) and there's some bug I hit a couple of times (two games in a row!) where your score jumps up to 999,999. A consumer might think Bandai was to blame for crap like that if they didn't pay enough attention to the two different brand names.
