Sorry to steal your title, glip, but like I said in your thread, it's too impossible for me to come up with a top 10 games list of all time. Top 10 per platform (/that I've played) I can handle, even though it's more work Just keep in mind probably none of these are in order though. Arcade1. Pong 2. Defender 3. Tempest 4. Tetris 5. Major Havoc (so unique!) 6. Gauntlet 7. Video Pinball 8. Super Pac-Man (believe it or not...that, or the original Pac-Man. Or hell, even Ms. Pac-Man!) 9. Challenger 10. Space Fever (Color) Runners up: Tron, being great in having four games, and Venture, since it has a crapload of dungeons, treasures, monsters and mannerisms, and Alien Sector (aka Baraduke, which is somewhat like Wizard of Wor underwater, but with a much larger, scrolling playfield )
Atari 2600
1. Escape from the MindMaster (absolutely SPECTACULAR) 2. Pitfall or Pitfall 2 (can't make up my mind which) 3. Kaboom! (so simple, yet so addicting!) 4. Super Breakout (good variety with Progressive, double paddles and cavity...I play one of each when I break it out [pardon the pun ] over the years, just like I did just the other month) 5. Adventure 6. Superman 7. H. E. R. O. 8. Megamania 9. Tunnel Runner 10. River Raid (AMAZING how it just keeps on going and going!)
Genesis
1. Fatal Rewind 2. Lemmings 3. Star Control 4. Gauntlet 4 5. Desert Strike 6. Ms. Pac-Man 7. Sonic the Hedgehog 8. Zero Tolerance 9. Flashback 10. Shining in the Darkness
Honorable mention: Gunstar Heroes probably should be here, but as I said, these are for games that I've played, which I haven't played this one
Vectrex
1. Nebula Commander 2. Fortress of Narzod 3. Royal 21 4. Gravitrex 5. Birds of Prey (might be a *little* biased on this one since I loved Phoenix) 6. Moon Lander 7. Protector 8. V-Frogger 9. Mine Storm 10. Cosmic Chasm
Honorable mentions: yes, Vector Pilot probably deserves to go on here, but again, haven't played this one yet, and Thrust comes close, but I feel Gravitrex gets the nod due to having more of a variety (gravity being in two or three different ways on one of the final level's planets; argh!)

Great games list VectorX!! Thanks! That was one of the earliest arcade games I ever played Do you mean Bagman? Interesting choice! I just played that at the annual game expo back in November for the first time in probably 20+ years Two player simultaneous version kicked ASS! 3. Miner 2049'er (Coleco) LOVED that...reminds me, I forgot to do Coleco...never did get one (yet!) but I played plenty of it from a friend. 4. Shining in the Darkness Game's a bitch, isn't it?! 9. Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Snes) I might have to snag that for the Genny at some point if I come across it...I always meant to play that...

Yep Bagman. I must be getting tired.
Shining in the Darkness was difficult till I got Sega Genesis Secrets book. It had all the maps plus tips for the game.
It's hard to list there are so many great games that have been made over the years so thought I would list some of the ones I played most.

^He might've meant better than the 2600 version of Defender. Bagman was freakin' hard but different. That was more like a computer, rather than an arcade game, what with having several different screens that you had to move around in in order to get the treasure.

Top 10 per platform (/that I've played) I can handle, even though it's more work Just keep in mind probably none of these are in order though. Ha ha. Awesome. For me the combined list works best because it can include some of everything that I like and also consist exclusively of titles I can stand behind 100%. All the titles on my list are so essential in my mind, that I'll put that list next to non-video game lists, (such as top 10 feature films), to show/recommend to anybody what I call video gaming. Plus I like to see Shadow of the Colossus, Web Wars and Marble Madness on the same list. There's so many good video games that I resist exalting to pantheon status because of flaws and imperfections. I could name my 10 favorite Vectrex games, but it's not as meaningful to me because only a handful of them are really great or what I would call 'fully realized', 'completely resolved'. Here's my contribution to Pantheon 2: NES: Bionic Commando Marble Madness Legend of Zelda Super Mario Bros 2 Goonies II Metroid RBI Baseball 3 Excitebike Kid Icarus Gunsmoke Vectrex/vector: Web Wars Protector I, Cyborg Tempest Bedlam Fortress of Narzod Art Master Battlezone Pole Position Asteroids

I could name my 10 favorite Vectrex games, but it's not as meaningful to me because only a handful of them are really great or what I would call 'fully realized', 'completely resolved'. Yeah, that's why I can't do a Sega CD list, since most of the games I played weren't that great or the majority of them were from elsewhere, like the majority of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure you could just play off the Genesis version (there were only a few new levels on that one). Sol-Feace was better done on the Genesis (sadly!) as Sol- Deace. Silpheed was pretty good and Stellar-Fire and Sonic were only ok (I never saw the big deal of the Sonic CD), and Willy Beamish was very funny but took FOREVER for scenes to load, plus it wasn't exactly a game, etc. So hence none of that from me. Wow, nice to see you like Art Master so much That sounds promising!

Wow, nice to see you like Art Master so much That sounds promising! The more I use it the more special it seems to me. Animaction is more useful for certain things, and probably translates better to normal game graphics, if you are using this stuff for game design. But Art Master is a very unique animation environment. The way it morphs each vector from one frame to the next is not a normal animation technique, and it can produce some really interesting results, which play beautifully on the vector monitor. It really enables you to showcase the smooth sharp beauty of vector graphics, in ways that you are unlikely to see in a video game... Art Master would make a supreme candidate for a revision to the program. It can be quite tedious and clumsy trying to draw with the lightpen. If there was an added functionality using the control panel (or a keyboard!), to be able to move vertices incrementally, or even to precisely enter numerical coordinates, the program would be a lot easier to use. Increasing the number of available frames would be an improvement, as well as giving the option to use fewer than the maximum. ... Heh of course it would be sweet if you could actually save your animations! Maybe a primitive system of "saving" could be made by having an option to produce a kind of "password", consisting of hundreds of characters. So if you were diligent enough to actually write down this code, you could re-enter it later to reproduce your animation on Vectrex. ... I don't know the size of the Art Master ROM, but I know that generally the original GCE games are much smaller than the homebrews are. So presumably a lot more could be done, perhaps just by adding to the existing program? ......... Actually I just think it would be totally awesome for the homebrew programmers to come out with several new animation/drafting carts. How often does anybody get to make animations for a vector display? I don't know how difficult this would be from a programming perspective, but as far as design and coming up with ideas, it would be nothing. Probably "educational" games are mostly uncharted territory for homebrew gaming too, so I think it would be a most worthy new challenge. I have seen the Logo and Basic projects for Vectrex, but new animation stuff would be way more fun (for me at least).

Art Master would make a supreme candidate for a revision to the program. It can be quite tedious and clumsy trying to draw with the lightpen. I think Art Master 2-4 carts were planned, but of course the Crash prevented the Vectrex from going far at all. If there was an added functionality using the control panel (or a keyboard!), to be able to move vertices incrementally, or even to precisely enter numerical coordinates, the program would be a lot easier to use. Who knows what all was planned for the Vectrex keyboard... I don't know the size of the Art Master ROM, but I know that generally the original GCE games are much smaller than the homebrews are. So presumably a lot more could be done, perhaps just by adding to the existing program? Actually I just think it would be totally awesome for the homebrew programmers to come out with several new animation/drafting carts. How often does anybody get to make animations for a vector display? Not many people have a Light Pen, so it might not be feasible to do anything with that (I know FURY was disillusioned a while back in regards to a 3D Imager game, but not many people have those). However, the modern day Light Pen reproductions aren't very expensive, so there could still be a possibility for that. Who knows...

Vectrex/vector: Web Wars Protector I, Cyborg Tempest Bedlam Fortress of Narzod Art Master Battlezone Pole Position Asteroids I'm leaning towards some changes to this, now that I've played two Sega vector games. Haven't played them enough to decide yet, but very impressed by Zektor and Tac/Scan. ... I had seen images from Zektor before and thought it looked cool, but more gimmick than game. ... Playing it (unlocked on PS2 genesis collection), I still think it may be more gimmick than game, but the zooming city intro is just too awesome to ignore. (Also I can't judge the gaming yet because I really suck so far at it.) ... The effect of the cityscape vanishing behind the talking head by shrinking into nothing really resembles an effect/technique that I've used in my ArtMaster animations. It's not difficult to do or anything, but when a vector sprite simply shrinks to nothing, or begins as nothing and grows into appearing, it just looks awesome to me. ... I don't recall seeing this much at all in the vector games I've played. I suppose the levels in Bedlam appear and vanish in this manner. But it doesn't look as cool in that instance. ... Tac/Scan I really knew nothing about. I'm also holding out judgement on the gameplay of this one so far. But the alternating mechanic of vertical shooting/perspective shooting is quite awesome to me. More solid than the alternating mechanic of Major Havoc in my opinion. ... I also really really like when simple stars are used to convey movement or perspective. Seems much more simple than the complete 3D environment of Battlezone, and kind of like a little magic trick. ... In the 2D vertical part of the game, there are apparently multiple layers of stars, moving at different rates. The effect, (while not a very realistic depiction of space travel), is pretty compelling to me, like many side scrolling 16-bit era games where various dimensions in the background are scrolling at different speeds, though conveyed so much more simply in Tac/Scan. ... I also really enjoy the anti-climactic sound effects when your ships get hit. ... Can't figure out the perspective view portion of the game yet, as it seems like the ships really don't change direction when you try to move them, they just seem to look different, but still fly and shoot at the same points. ... The perspective effect of cascading circles (polygons whatever) also is awesome, and not something I've seen much of. If I were keeping this a list of 10 vector games and potentially adding these two, I'd actually lean towards eliminating Tempest. Many might find that sacrilegious, but I find Web Wars and Bedlam to both be more fun games, and between the two of them cover all the ground that Tempest covers, and then some. I suppose next I would eliminate Vectrex Pole Position. I had a very difficult time spelling sacrilegious.

I had seen images from Zektor before and thought it looked cool, but more gimmick than game. ... Playing it (unlocked on PS2 genesis collection) That's great that that was included on the collection! I didn't know that. Because I know several years ago (unless this was an urban legend, but there was a quote from some Sega person from somewhere) saying they couldn't find the code for the arcade games to do converted versions of them for home releases such as that. They might've found them since ... Tac/Scan I really knew nothing about. I'm also holding out judgement on the gameplay of this one so far. I wouldn't. That's a very good, unique game: how many other games can you name from back then where you commanded a squadron of ships? Can't figure out the perspective view portion of the game yet, as it seems like the ships really don't change direction when you try to move them, they just seem to look different, but still fly and shoot at the same points. ... Not really, they just turn in different directions and the screen will roll when you do, kind of like Bosconian I guess, where you're still in the center but you just change directions. I had a very difficult time spelling sacrilegious. Maybe you've noticed the Spell Check button at the bottom by now BTW, don't expect much of the Tac/Scan Atari 2600 version. It only includes the first stage, and that's it. Ok at best for a shooter, but it's pretty much Tac/Scan in name only other than that.
