I really don't want to ship this if at all possible. I need my sound chip replaced. I can source the part, but I need someone near by to solder it on. I wont lie, I'm in a pretty bad position here. Willing to drive and pay for your time, obviously. System is near mint and I just don't want it harmed in the mail system.
Please reply here or pm me if you or someone you know can do this job. Should be hard at all if you can solder.

Are you sure you need to solder it in? have you checked? Quite a few Vectrex consoles have them socketed. Depends if the Vectrex was manufactured in Taiwan or Hongkong, and which year/time it was produced.
If it's socketed it's obviously easier to remove and push in a new chip. I've changed a socketed sound chip, using a screwdriver to lever the chip out and in, without having to go anywhere near the vertical analogue board and CRT.
I have to say the obvious message is if you do not know what you are doing keep well away from the CRT/vertical analogue board.

Whenever you find a person to work on the board, have then add a set of sockets of the DIP ICs to make future maintenance easier.
