Looks great! Well.....it's only 4 days to go! Anyone else thinking constantly about the big day looming just around the corner? In the U.S., we have the superbowl or the world series. To me, Vector War is the one big event each year. I cannot wait. One thing about last year that really blew me away was the talent of the gamers in the tournament. There are serious players in this thing! I remember a member of the Vectrex scene popping in just to see how things were going around the halfway point. He said something to the tune of, "what is going on around here? These scores are insane!"
They were insane.... I'm sure they will be again this year.

Yesterday my Vectrex took its rightful place on the far end of the kitchen table in preparation for Vector War. I was trying out the "new for me" games in this year's lineup, when my daughter Len (now 18 years old and a Vector War veteran) and her boyfriend Måns came home. I didn't think me playing on the Vectrex would interest them much. To my great surprise both of them wanted to practice in preparation for Vector War when they saw me and the Vectrex. Let me tell you this, they both eradicated and completely crushed me in Pole Position. There will be four participants from my household: Me, Moyu, Len and Måns. (I have yet to manage to lure my wife into playing vectrex, but I am working on it)
There are some coole prizes on the table this year. No, I do not mean my own donated prizes. Besides, none from my house are able to win my prizes. It would feel wrong. I own a bezel overlay for Vector Kong and it really lifts up the room when it is on the vectrex. Those books too seem like they would be an interesting read. Not to mention that Vectrex Expert pin.

...They were insane.... I'm sure they will be again this year. Thank you for your positive sight of the Vector War, Scott - that's good to read. There are really very keen and talented players around. But let's not forget that there are also novice players and not so experienced players around which is very good. Everyone who has access to a Vectrex console is welcome to join in and play in the Vector War. Yesterday my Vectrex took its rightful place on the far end of the kitchen table in preparation for Vector War. ... Looks like Lindberg team is well prepared and pretty complete, again. ... Thank you for your positive feedback on the prizes. Indeed, Tony, winning your own prizes doesn't make much sense. But sure enough you can win any of the other prizes. >Not to mention that Vectrex Expert pin. That pin is awesome! The pin looks even better in reality than in the photos.

Anyone else thinking constantly about the big day looming just around the corner Yes, actually! As a collector my Vectrex is one of my prized centrepieces, however it doesn't get as much play as it deserves because there are so many distractions. I loved the tournament last year because it gave me a focused reason to play just the Vectrex - and not dipping in and out of games casually, but playing to really understand specific titles.
In the process I learned to appreciate a few which I had dismissed before. And it was fun seeing others getting great scores and then competing to see if I could get a few more points.
I know two others with the system (one is being repaired; the other lacks a flash cart), and I've been trying to get them to take part.
I would still own and enjoy my Vectrex without Vector War, but the existence of the tournie with fellow like-minded owners, makes it feel really special and worthwhile. It's not just an expensive rarity that sits on a shelf any more, it's something to savour and practice.
I've not been practising at all (I have guests visiting until Friday), but once Saturday looms round this will be the only games system I play for the week (and I say this having just started Breath of the Wild). Not worried about winning any prizes, just want to see if I can beat my 13th position from last year.
EDIT: With Thrust, are we playing Normal, Hard+ or Time Attack?

Sketz,
You got 13th last year? Again, if you look at the caliber of competition, that is a very, very respectable finish! I got 17th and I nearly played my Vectrex to death just to get that position. And I 100% agree - it forced me to become immersed into games I would have usually glossed over. For example: because of VW last year, Spinball has become one of my favorite games on the system. Like so many Veccy games, you have to get into it to get the "magic" of it.
I'm off to go see if I can crush lucifer. So far, he's only crushed me.

It feels totally insane that I once placed third. MY usual placing has been 9th for some reason.

I have access to all the games apart from CroLu. My Vectrex will come inside soon to acclimatise, as the games room (outside unheated) is getting too cold. My cats enjoy sitting on the Veccy to keep warm. I have to wear headphones using the VAT, as my partner dislikes video game noise. Excited to begin! I have had little practice so expect to mingle in the lower end of the table. By the power of the mighty Vectrex, I wish all competitors the best of luck. May we all have fun and create many happy memories.

....14 hours 'till war time. I got small pieces of paper ready to go for writing down codes quickly for picture taking. Can't be too prepared, right? ;-)

Qualifying will be very easy this year. There are (still) no threshold scores

Time is ticking for the countdown...
Surges of excitement are already running through our veins...
Last Vector War my daughter (now 15 years old) debuted as Toph and will be around again.
In the meantime I acquired a second Vectrex, so this time she will get much more playtime than last year. But there is still this annoying thing called "school"... Even though I generously offered writing up an elaborate excuse for school unfortunately the wife is not on our side, Vector Pals. Can you believe this??? 🤣
Best of luck to all of you warriors in our battle for honor.
Cheers, Vorkosigan
