I played War of the Worlds on this emulator and I have to say that the Vectrex version is pretty good. The one aspect that is different (and makes the game tougher on the Vectrex) is that the tripods lasers cover the entire bottom of the screen when they shoot. On the arcade they only shoot at a portion of the screen, making it possible to maneuver and avoid getting hit.

From what I've heard the arcade game was too easy. FURY improved upon it, just like he did with Zantis, since Spiders wasn't a very good game (which Z. is very loosely based on).

Collision detection on the arcade seems to be off. The Vectrex does better much better there. You can always use shields on the Vectrex version but those are limited in number. I have Zantis on the list of games to play. I did see it is based on Spiders (or, at least, inspired by it).

Yeah the two games (Spiders/Zantis) play a bit differently, which is good: no point in doing a vector remake of a crappy game!

detonator - There is supposed to be an audio feature on AAE that generates a "vector chatter" sound. Do you know if the chatter sound is simply an audio file sample recording being played back by the emulator? I assume it uses .wav sample files for most of the game sounds (at least the ones that used discrete sound boards). I have not personally tried to run AAE yet.. My P4 PC has an older GeForce 7600 GT card in it. Not sure if it is enough GPU power for AAE. I am in the final stages of completing my iOS Vector Game app. Which I will be formally announcing on this forum soon. It is targeted for the iPad. I could possibly add this "vector chatter" sound if I could obtain a good source or sample of it.. I have not been around a real vector arcade cabinet in a good while, so I don't recall exactly what the chatter sounds like. If I recall correctly, it should vary and change with the amount of lines drawn on the screen. Seems like the chatter would be more noticeable if your standing at the rear of the cabinet with the rear door removed, than when actually playing the games. Plus the game sounds would probably mask most of the chatter noise, especially on "loud" games, like the one I am working on. Some of the old arcade game manuals refer to this sound as the audible "clatter" coming from the deflection yoke on the CRT neck. What is the Vectrex chatter like? Do you guys notice it much? Maybe the Vectrex speaker "buzz" masks any tube chatter/clatter from the monitor? Wondering if I should even bother with the chatter or forget about it.. I have already coded a "vector flicker" option to make your iPad look like it has a lower refresh rate.

In the video below you can hear the "chatter/clatter" when he is at the rear of the machine pointing at the video board (middle of video). Might be nice to hear that over the speaker in the game's demo mode, when no sound is active.. But like I thought, once your in front of the machine, you can no longer hear it..

I have not personally tried to run AAE yet.. And the first game he'll try will be Star Ca-- ;D I am in the final stages of completing my iOS Vector Game app. Which I will be formally announcing on this forum soon. Great to hear! What is the Vectrex chatter like? Do you guys notice it much? It depends on the game and what's going on; if there's not a lot going on for the Vectrex to do, graphics-wise, the sound changes. It's bad for something like Continuum where it (the game) doesn't have much sound, but then you're trying to figure out how to solve the puzzles so you can tune it out. Once my Vectrex eventually needs to go into the shop I'm going to have that part of it fixed. I've had ENOUGH of the "Vectrex buzz"!

Yeah... they're wav files inside the "AAE" samples ZIP package inside the \samples folder. Thus, easily tweakable.

Wow, until he did the close-up, most would probably think that came from an actual A. Deluxe machine!
