Minestorm II is rare, but not as rare as some of the homebrew games. During the last three years I've seen four copies on ebay Europe. I'll watch out and let you (darksaibot) know if there is another one sold. Actually, $500 sounds too much to me, $200 - $300 is more realistic. welcome to the forums Helmut

fml I had one as a kid. It always confused the hell out of me why I had a cartridge of a game, when i didnt need the cart to play. It was either thrown out a long time ago, when the vectrex was thrown out (long story) or hopefully in my parents basement somewhere.

Ouch! To know how much that was worth later...

Looks like no one is interested in Minestorm II, anymore...

Is there a way to find out if my Vectrex already has that version? Does anyone know if one can tell my serial number?

If you can get well past level 13, there doesn't appear to be any Space Dust or alien forces, plus Mine Field 2 has the Magnetic Mines, then the Fireball Mines at Mine Field 3 should tell you you've got the later version, as I think Mine Storm 2 and the overseas version of Mine Storm are the same.

I asked because I remember reading that the ROM on the units was replaced after a certain point in manufacture.

..., as I think Mine Storm 2 and the overseas version of Mine Storm are the same. Do you mean the European version when talking about "overseas version"? The European Vectrex console also had the Level 13 bug, otherwise MB would not have sent out the Minestorm II modules to European Vectrex owners on request. It might well be that later versions of the Vectrex console (both GCE and MB) don't have the Level 12 bug. Perhaps someone can check/confirm this.

The European Vectrex console also had the Level 13 bug, otherwise MB would not have sent out the Minestorm II modules to European Vectrex owners on request. Could be that there's more than one then? Guess we'll have to wait until someone more knowledgeable on it drops by, or until VectrexMad! does his all-encompassing Mine Storm article that he's been planning on doing (which probably won't be for a while!). It might well be that later versions of the Vectrex console (both GCE and MB) don't have the Level 12 bug. Perhaps someone can check/confirm this. They don't. I saw threads on the Vectrex news group where someone somewhere (it wasn't here in the States) had gotten up to level 90 or 100 and mentioned the different Mine Field patterns I talked about (Magnetic Mines on Mine Field 2, then the Fireball Mines on 3, unlike how they were on the first two versions). And I have one of the later Vectrexes (didn't get it until '84, yet it still buzzed!) and it only goes up to 89. Unless there's some trick to it (which I doubt there is), it's impossible to get past.

<offtopic> Is there a way to find out if my Vectrex already has that version? Does anyone know if one can tell my serial number? In the newsgroup rec.games the Minestorm versions have been discussed a lot: Ralph Stenzel wrote in rec.games.newsgroup:... All of the other units have the newer and bugless ROM version (no level-13 bug, no starting text other than 'VECTREX').____ And you can get past level 12 even with a buggy Minestorm version: Explanation of Fred Taft in 1995, who reengineered Minestorm and even corrected Minestorm: ... As for sometimes jumping back to the startup screen after you've completed a level, that is also a 'feature' of the code. Once a level is cleared, it jumps to some code which looks to see if any buttons are pressed; if they are, then it assumes the user wants to start a new game; this is code which should have only been executed when a game was over, but it gets checked after completing a level also. But this is all off-topic, discussion on Minestorm oddities and versions should continue in topic Mine Storm/oddities or a new topic. </offtopic>

Another Minestorm II for sale at ebay: cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230930488880The item is located in Germany and United States are not listed for shipping, but you might contact and ask for overseas shipping. EDIT: Just found out that the same seller sold Minestorm II in December. With the same photos. Either he has several copies or he did not sell the cart for some reason even though the ebay auction ended with a sale. The comparatively low bids in the December auction might even be the reason why the seller has set a minimum price.

I know who the seller is, he can be trusted, but yeah, I didn't see the previous auction so I can't comment.
