Best new video game I played this year? Killer Queen! I really had no idea what the game was until Sunday around 5:30 P.M. But after I found out I spent about 1 1/2 hours playing. It was the most surprisingly fun and addictive team battle game I have played in a while! Great being able to have so many kids, teens, and adults of both genders just loving game play no matter whether they were on the winning or losing side of the battle. Overall a Win, Win, Win! Looking forward to playing more! How unusual, in this day and age!

Killer Queen. 2 giant cabs, each hosting 5 players. 10-player action! I thought it was a 10-player Joust, but when I played, I ended up being a drone. 4 drones & 1 queen per side. I honestly couldn't get into it. I didn't have a chance to figure out the game objectives in that environment. Great concept, always had a rowdy crowd--definitely a win.
Connected up. Maybe next year--I try to not to advertise to the world when I'll be out of town. :]
Tail Gunner. Tail Gunner stick played just fine for me. Just not ergonomic. But all top-fire or trigger sticks hurt me almost instantly--still, that won't stop me from playing long & intense games of Mad Planets!!! I also had to crawl out of the TG cockpit like an old man--you're really buried deep in that bucket seat--totally cool immersive experience!
Moon Quake. I played a ton of that. Excellent game. A little awkward, but any 2-joystick game is my friend. It was right next to Night Stocker, another 2-fisted game: steering wheel in the left hand, light gun in the right hand! I'd say that Moon Quake was my favorite find of the show.

I didn't have a chance to figure out the game objectives in that environment. That's the only downside with those expos, especially with uneven sound, as one game might be too quiet, whereas the one next to it is too freakin' loud. And then sometimes they play music too loudly as well (a common complaint with the local one I've frequented over the years). That's also why I skipped a lot of the modern day pinball machines because with all the ramps and all they seem the same, but with The Pinball Arcade app it looks like there will be many more I will be playing with the next expo, now that I "know" many of them a lot better in the quiet of the home But all top-fire or trigger sticks hurt me almost instantly--still, that won't stop me from playing long & intense games of Mad Planets!!! Man, I'd love to be able to play that again for the first time in over 20 years (as long as I can hear the soundtrack!). Hopefully some day someone will get one and bring it... I also had to crawl out of the TG cockpit like an old man Ugh, we're not teens any more! But then your legs and/or wrists usually get sore after one or two days of playing for hours straight anyway.

BTW, you definitely timed it right this year! The controls for Tail Gunner 2 were repaired during site load-in and setup. Mainly by Eric and Ken. I lent a small hand as well. It was a ground fault on the board where the controls connected. A couple of other problems were addressed as well. Last year the controls were broken with the joystick not tracking well because of the ground fault. I definitely played and enjoyed Tail Gunner quite a bit this year. I liked the original joystick. Was it an optimum stick? No. But at least it was an authentic experience. I also quickly experienced pain trying to play the sitdown Tail Gunner. Tops of my hands, the orientation of the controls is all wrong for extended playing (and the fire button wasn't all that responsive). I'm surprised no one at these CAX shows has an upright Tail Gunner, that is the one I remember always playing back in the day. The arcade at Disneyland (next to Space Mountain) used to have one. I prefer that joystick way more, I'd love to buy one of those eventually. But seriously, there was an upright War Of The Worlds and Solar Quest, both much rarer (I am assuming) than an upright Tail Gunner? I don't get it.

It should be no surprise that in this day you're not going to see every single arcade cabinet that was ever made in one arcade show. You're going to see some rares and commons - that's just the way it is. And KLOV lists Tail Gunner as scarce with only 4 known cabinets belonging to KLOV members.

Well, back when those games were new I saw more upright Tail Gunners than the sitdown version (of course it was like 3 uprights vs. 1 sitdown). Same for most cockpit games, I believe, except for Star Fire (if there's an upright version of that I never saw it). I only remember one arcade with a cockpit Star Trek: SOS and I've never seen an environmental Missile Command. I figured at a CAX show that I'd see an upright Tail Gunner before I saw a Solar Quest. Anyway, a few vector pics from this 2014 show -

^That must've been either very early or very late when you took that middle one: by the evening at these shows, all of those cabs would've been manned (and womaned) Same for most cockpit games, I believe, except for Star Fire (if there's an upright version of that I never saw it). Only ones I've ever seen were the cockpit as well. I only remember one arcade with a cockpit Star Trek: SOS and I've never seen an environmental Missile Command. I saw one environmental M. Command, that was it. Tallest environmental game I ever saw! I don't even recall the artwork around the Red Barons, which is neat. Crazy seeing War of the Worlds and especially BARRIER. Thanks for posting those!

The Armor Attack cabinet at the 2014 CAX show, appears to be the same kind of cabinet that was used for Tailgunner (upright) and Rip Off. The Armor Attacks that I had seen, and played back in the day, were always in a Star Castle style cabinet. That is interesting to see one in the earlier cabinet.
I did not realize Cinematronics ever made any Armor Attacks in that kind of cabinet. I have never seen a Star Castle in that kind of cabinet, and Star Castle was released well before Armor Attack, so it is kind of strange..
They must've had some left over older cabinets and decided to use them during the Armor Attack run.. That AA bezel in the old style cabinet is quite a bit different, especially the coloring of it, compared to the later cabinet AA bezel. They would've had to have gone to the trouble of making two different bezels for both cabinets styles, for that same game.
Now I am wondering if there is a Star Castle, like that, out there somewhere..
