I'm really buzzing on this idea of gamezone's here all of the sudden ;D
Maybe he originally just meant it as somewhat of a joke, but I think the poor Vectrex finally deserves an "official" (sorta) day of recognition.
As gamezone had said on this page--and in lieu of the one year anniversary of when these forums went live--we could have a National Play Your Vectrex Day. I figured it should be worldwide though, hence the slight name change.
Then I suddenly started thinking up things that could be done here.
One, I had been itching to have a "Vectrex events" category for the Vectrex wiki a while back, once a Vectrex showed up a few years ago at the local gaming expo (coming in November) I usually attend. I could take pics of the expo and put it up on my wiki (even though the majority of the games and such weren't Vectrex-related). The Vectrex didn't make it that year, so the Vectrex events dates were just regulated to ex-Western Technology personnel who had passed away, sadly
Anyway, I figured people could make an audio or video recording of them playing something for that day. I suddenly thought I would e-mail several Vectrex personnel and ask them to do this.
However, for those overseas/not here in the States, for some of them it's already the 9th, which is cutting it a bit too close to suddenly ask them to do something with only a day's notice. Sure, it won't take much to play a quick game of Star Hawk or anything, but to suddenly do that and ask for documentation, especially those who might be out of town or something and not be able to do anything until it's already passed, that's a little unfair.
So, lets shoot for making this on September 10, 2013. I'll keep this thread bookmarked (and later sticky it once the date starts coming up, say in next August) and put this date on a file I have here on this computer (as well as mine) with a bunch of miscellaneous junk. I can make a Vectrex wiki page on it, asking for people to either contact me through the wiki, on here or YouTube via PM with a link to their video or audio recording (Wikia doesn't host videos themselves, but I can link to them). That way I can put up all links to videos on that one page, then add to it over the years if we do this. I'll make a video in regards to announcing it to YouTubers and such. Someone could make a logo for it too, maybe something like the Overdrive Controller font for "International Play Your" and then "Vectrex Day" could be in the Vectrex font, accompanied by a picture or drawing of the Vectrex...something like that.
Photos will also be accepted and will be put in a Gallery on the wiki page. They HAVE to be Vectrex-related and taken on the 10th though. They can be posted here, PMed to me with your e-mail address for them to be e-mailed to me, or they can be posted on the wiki itself. You don't have to have a Wikia account to post pics and/or content but you won't be credited if you don't have an account though. There will be a list of participants and links to videos and such with the Gallery to follow, but keep your name or handle you want to be identified as in alphabetical order. If anyone has a web site, then those links will be at the bottom of the page, so include those too.
So, here's how I envision the wiki page/its inclusion:
*brief intro explaining the origins/event
*list of names (or handles that people want to go by) of those participating, followed by the game(s) they played and/or scores, along with video links if they have one
*Vectrex-related photo Gallery of that day
*divided up into years if we keep this going
*web site links at the bottom
Anyway, even though it's a while off, lets get to planning on this, shall we?
