Here's something I've been trying to find the answer to on and off for over 10 years now, to no avail...
So I rented, then bought the GREAT puzzle/cinematic game of Out of This World for my Genesis, then sold it a few years later so I could get the Sega CD exclusive sequel of Heart of the Alien for only $16 U. S. or so. Eh, they changed the music on the original game (since that was included on the cd) and loosened the controls a little (which made it even more difficult), the intro to the sequel was ridiculous for a while (loved how it was like a John Woo action movie where bad guys are firing off hundreds of rounds of ammo, yet can't hit the broad sign of a barn, much less who they're shooting at) and the game wasn't that great, but its ending surprised me.
And then...WOW. On the second to the last screen of credits appears to be a "thank you" section when you beat the game, it says, for some reason, Bolt Thrower, of all bands. This is a severely heavy death metal band, which made me wonder why on earth it was there. I contacted Harm S. of the Bolt Thrower FAQ, thinking he of all people would know, but not only did he not, but he's kept in touch with the band over the years, and not only did they not know about it, they had never even heard of the ordeal until then! So it was cool to be THE one to break this news to them...whatever it is (The theory for a while was that the band's music was used for the game, but as I sent over all the soundfiles from the cd to Harm, that debunked that silly theory.)
I haven't had a very good time in trying to contact the people involved with the production, but for the most part they're usually not easily contacted over the internet anyway in general, since, if they stay in the business for a while, you put up their contact address and you're going to get swamped with e-mails if you're still in the public eye. I haven't given it a good try in trying to find the answer for a few years now but I say to myself I'll do so again at some point.
So, does anyone know? I assume at this point it wasn't a reference to the band, that maybe someone on the game making team had that as a nickname and it might not have anything to do with the metal band. For those that don't know -- as the name sounds a bit weak, I'll admit -- the bolt thrower is actually a pretty nasty weapon, especially at long distances (think arrows with the ability to travel several hundred yards, and then thunk), which it could be in regards to that, like maybe fantasy role playing or something. But either way I'd still like to know and put this to rest!
