I posted this elsewhere and thought this would be an interesting topic for us older folk
This is in regards to us becoming old farts and not being able to do things that we used to in regards to games.
Some of this might be about games that you haven't played in a while and for you lost your knack for them. Others can be worse, like with Joeybastard on Atari Age who had to sell his Vectrex collection, as he couldn't play it any more because he started getting headaches whenever he played it Oof...that sucks. Even if all Vectrex games were available to play on an emulator (which they're not) it still isn't the same.
For me, for some reason I can't play tabletop arcade games any more. I tried playing a Defender at a gaming expo a few years ago and I was like "wtf?". For some reason I couldn't see what I was doing. Ok, maybe just something odd about that game in particular? Nope, because the last time I went to that local expo (year before last), I played one of those 48 in 1 tabletop units, playing a game each of the many that were on there, like Pleiades (nice that the warp function didn't work, dammit!), Donkey Kong 3 (still don't really like that one), etc., and I couldn't do it sitting down. I had to somewhat stand up to do it, looking odd (I'm sure), which that hurt my lower back and neck. The only game I could play was Frogger (for some odd reason). If I ever find a really rare Space Fever (one of the few arcade games I want to own), I'm probably going to be screwed, since I think those came out in a tabletop model only. (Maybe I'll just put a brick or two underneath the legs and tilt it towards me at about a 30 degree angle?)
What're your handicaps that you didn't use to have?
