Bit of an interactive one today, as I created a new poll on the Vectrex wiki in regards to which out of several groups of similar games is your favorite.
You can choose one from each group. You don't have to have a Wikia account in order to be able to vote.
As far as Asteroids-like games go, probably Mine Storm is the most polished and best, although the Rockaroids Remixes move a lot faster, so those could be favorites. I got sick to death of Mine Storm years ago, so I voted for S. Frenzy.
As far as Kaboom!-like games, Spike's Water Balloons might get some votes, due to the added Kickman-like element, but that just gets to be a bit of a button-masher to me, and I thought having the ability to earn back (or lose) paddles put Vaboom! ahead, so I chose that one (even though it crashes before level 20).
I didn't vote for Patriots because I haven't really played the original except through emulation. Out of the other two, though, I like Patriots Remix better than 3, since that gets to be a button-masher to me.
Space Invader-like games, though, gets a bit complicated. Most of them play differently; i. e. Vector Vaders is slow for the most part, as is More Invaders!, whereas 2 is faster, and Y*A*S*I has the most options (once you earn them). However, I picked More Invaders! due to the invaders splitting after the first screen, along with it having the secret bonuses.
Most complicated of all is Gravitrex vs. Thrust though, which I just picked that it depended on mood/other circumstances, as technically the basic gameplay is different (as you're talking tethered to something vs. NOT being tethered to something). Also, Gravitrex is a quicker game, whereas Thrust has more levels if you can get through them all. The ending gets the exact same mark if you can beat them (disappointing, especially since beating each game on either difficulty level is the exact same), although Thrust beats Gravitrex in regards to increased difficulty, since on the Hard+ mode the bunkers fire an additional type of shot, you only get an extra ship with every 20,000 points and there's two extra levels not in the regular game, and you also get the additional perfect bonus as well...with Gravitrex, the arcade version just causes your ship to thrust more even as you turn, but other than that it's the exact same game.
Also, when you're talking cartridge release...well, I'll get into those later, I'll just end this post here for now and await one or more replies first
