I haven't heard of Spike's Circus. It's a homebrew game? The overlay and label look very authentic!
Though I didn't mention this before, I did acquire a 4.5mm security bit driver, commonly known as a Gamebit. I have the smaller model, which opens most Nintendo brand cartridges; the larger one opens the Super Nintendo system and works with most Sega Genesis games. I don't have a reason take the SNES apart, but I do have a few Genesis games that need a more thorough cleaning than I'm able to give them with the cartridge housing in the way.

I emailed multiple times and got no response. The address still seems to work since the emails never bounce back, they are just not being replied. As you probably saw, Helmut could possibly have an alternate addy from him, but I don't think he's heard from him from that source either.

Yeah, it's a homebrew; there was only one Spike game for the Vectrex from back in the day (called that; since then there's been the Spike Hoppin' and Spike's Circus homebrews). This was a very limited edition one, complete with overlay (obviously). No one seems to know what the deal is with its creator Alex not responding to e-mails any more, which sucks.

You can check out the site here: Vectorzoa. Even though the site is up, and you can see other homebrews that were developed or were in development (like the Joust clone), no one seems to be able to reach Alex. Only three games were completed: Logo, Star Sling, and Spike's Circus according to the site.

Congratulations on your Spike's Circus, Trek. I had watched that auction and it's cool to see you the winner. I think you may have competed with desfeek for this one.
I am looking forward to your detailed review of the game.

Well this is not as new and exciting of a game, (and really not the most exotic of my own recent acquisitions). But I think it is about the best bargain I have gotten in quite a while. It's the original Legend of Zelda for NES, which I don't think I've actually ever owned before. (Only ever played on GBA or in emulation). The circumstances were unusual enough for me to take pictures and post them... The game is in VERY good condition, includes both the instruction booklet and a map, came in a Nintendo dust sleeve. I bought it for $12 at the local 2nd hand music store, which always has a selection of NES, SNES, Genesis and Gameboy games. ... I do not normally find stuff in this kind of condition at this shop. Looking at the PCB contacts, it looks as if this cart has hardly been played. When I fired it up on my NES, there was only one game saved, which was only at the very beginning of the quest. The paperwork is a bit bent up, but I don't think I've ever seen a NES game at this shop which included any paperwork. ... Quite a deal in my book, and also as convenient of a purchase as could be, being that the shop is a block away from my workplace, and was on my way to the grocery today.

For $12, that is quite a bargain! And it looks like the gold finish is still in pristine condition. For comparison, my brother's cartridge of Zelda II looks like it was dipped in an acid bath; it's splotchy and faded, whereas your cartridge is uniformly colored. Great find! I would display that with pride; the Legend of Zelda is universally recognized as one of the best NES games of all time.

My latest purchase is an essential game in the NES library: Castlevania. I've been wanting to add this side-scrolling action/platforming classic to my collection for a while. So, when I found it for an attractive price on eBay, I knew I had to throw in my bid. People who have played Castlevania will remember that it is one of the more difficult games on the console. Death occurs when your character runs out of energy, but mostly you'll contend with being knocked off a platform and falling into the abyss on a regular basis.

Ah i always had too much trouble with the Castlevania games. The jumping and whipping feels so sluggish i always got frustrated.

If anyone is not familiar with a game called Mega Man Legends, let me bring you up to speed. I think we're all familiar with the concept of a Mega Man game: a heroic robot travels through six to eight stages, fights a boss at the end and learns a new ability from his defeated foe. Mega Man Legends takes this basic formula and modifies it to work inside an RPG engine. So, instead of traveling through stages and fighting bosses for power-ups, Mega Man navigates dungeons and finds new equipment in treasure chests. Most of the storyline plays out in cut-scenes and dialogue, and the player is assisted along a linear path to complete objectives. Though the plot travels along a set path, players are free to explore the world as they wish and are encouraged to take Mega Man on digs and into dungeons to find equipment and spare parts. Some parts can be fashioned into new weapons and armor while others can be traded to NPCs in the world in exchange for items. I just acquired a copy of Mega Man 64, which is the Nintendo 64 port of Mega Man Legends. The graphics and gameplay are mostly smooth, but the voice acting sounds compressed due to the limitations of the game cartridge. Mega Man 64 would be the only Mega Man game published on the Nintendo 64.
Something else I picked up for the Nintendo 64 was Blast Corps. While it's not an expensive game to own, Blast Corps is easily considered one of the Nintendo 64's most cherished classics. Gameplay focuses on commandeering demolition vehicles to break down old buildings in a series of timed trials. Players collect money during the missions for destroying buildings, but the real point of the game is to clear a path on the field for an important vehicle to pass through. It's a simple game, but addictive, and to prevent the missions from becoming repetitive, different vehicles are made available throughout the story mode--at one point, the player can even pilot a walking mech robot!

I decided it was time to get some carts from John Dodzila before he closes shop. Even though I have many of these games on multicart, having the real package is just worthwhile. So, here is what I got... I also got this for my Atari 7800!

Armor Attack 2 is excellent! I was playing the demo on the emulator and loved it. Bob did an excellent job with the game, as he always does.

I had the same thought and did the same thing! I called it my last order, but I'm sure I will be tempted again in the 11th hour. ... I wonder if there is (or will be) anyone else who puts a custom ROM on a Vectrex cart? I am hoping to be in need of that service some day, (and at John's prices I would have even rushed an unfinished program in, just to get that 'cart in hand' feeling). ... If there is anyone who still doesn't have Gravitrex or Protector, you have GOT to buy them from CGC while you still can.
