Its a very usefully way to enjoy the games a bit more and also test overlay designs before you send them to get screen printed. I used Mark Desemet's article as a basis for the way I do mine. It's also how Martjin Wenting did the overlays for Debris Exclusive Edition. While I design mine in a vector program, you can download and photoshop or use mspaint or whatever to design them. Make sure to get the transparencies for you printer (laser or inkjet), make sure to use the proper side (the rough side for inkjet) and make sure to to set your print quality to the best possible. I have both hand painted and taped off and sprayed the white backing. Spraying is more straight but not necessarily cleaner. Often the paint can chip using the tape. And my final recommendation is that you get heavy duty/thick/heavyweight self adhesive laminating sheets. The common ones are not particularly rigid or thick but will work. If you get large bubbles (you're bound to get tiny ones), make them as tight as possible and then use a sharp razor or pin to let the air out. maxwell.fief.org/overlay.htmlI will say that every Vectrex displays a little different, so I wouldn't recommend small/tight shapes that are supposed to tint graphics. Give more than enough space for the object. It wonder if a built in calibration like on Protector LE would solve this problem for particular overlay designs.

It wonder if a built in calibration like on Protector LE would solve this problem for particular overlay designs. I think having a calibration screen should be offered on all new Vectrex games that use an overlay requiring its graphics/transparent colours to be 1:1 with graphics on the Vectrex. Vector Pilot, Vectrexians and Warrior do it. Even for my YASI overlays, with only three horizontal bands of transparent colour and border graphics, I am fearing that some users with Vectrex consoles not properly aligned, will experience some of the Vector graphics hidden behind the overlay border. I fiddled/increased with the colour band height to accomodate five of my Vectrex consoles, so hopefully that covers a wide gamut of setups.

The YASI Overlay is great! And it fits in my Vectrex ^^

I saw on your site that you intend to make a Vecfahren 2000 (I'd go with Vecfahren 3000, 2000 was 14 years ago). Playing the original I thought it'd be nice if you could use analog controls rather than digital controls or at least have the option. It'd make it so I could get past the first 15 seconds of the race which isn't for a lack of trying. I don't guess there's any kind of end to the game is there?

Since it was a free download, I'm working on a Vecfahren design. Testing the layout on my Vectrex using the self adhesive laminating sheets and printed transparency film technique but I'm also trying to figure out how to display it properly in ParaJVE. I just need to figure out how to display the transparent layer. Hey I am just now seeing this. That really does look awesome! I think it's my favorite design of yours so far.

VecFahren Overlay.pdf (3.57 KB) Here are files for the Vecfahren overlay I have designed. I'm making the PDF available so you can use the transparency and self-adhesive laminating sheet method. I will say that a number of things on the overlay may not line up on a real Vectrex. There's too much variation from system to system. On ParaJVE, its perfect, though you might want to turn the brightness up a tad. Place both files under ParaJVE/data/packs and it should load the overlay automatically when the game starts. Thank you binarystar for showing me how to make this all happen with the transparency and the border. Let it be known that sale of my design in any way is not allowed unless it is with my permission. I have no intentions of producing any overlays myself, this is strictly for personal use and enjoyment.

Great work, the overlay looks awesome! Thanks for this! The "2000" in the Title is a joke, because I can remember, that most Retro-Games which has some futuristic Themes has a "2000" Title or something about "2000", so Retro-Game - Retro-Title Here are the Blueprints:

That looks great! You could also use the year 2019, very popular year to feature in both games and movies back in the 80:s. Or maybe 2084 as in "Robotron 2084"
