I decided to tackle this modification to save wear and tear on my original Vectrex controllers: www.playvectrex.com/vectech/controller.txtAfter wiring everything up and cutting necessary traces, I tested it to find the Down/Left directions do not work properly. The "action buttons" work properly and Up/Right are both accurate on screen. However, when pressing Down, the Vectrex interprets Up; pressing Left will register as Right. I've checked for shorts with the continuity test and so far nothing appears off. Does anyone have any advice as to what the issue could be?

you sure you haven't wired down/left to +5v rather than -5v?

Yes, Up/Right is isolated to +5v and Down/left is isolated to -5v.
When testing with the Vectrex Test cart, pressing left flashes to left for a second and then moves to and stays on right. The same is true when pressing down; it flashes down and then moves to and stays up.

Using those images as a reference, my wiring is the exact same albeit on a different board variation. I think I discovered the issue! The 3.3K Ohm resistors I was using were bad. They were "flame proof" resistors, so I must have overheated them while soldering. I've ordered some fresh resistors from Thailand which should arrive in a few weeks. I'll update this thread when they arrive

UPDATE: The new resistors arrived, I soldered them in, and the directions now work perfectly!

Nice.
I was going to recommend checking the voltages with a multimeter to make sure you get the -3.X V when the left / down are pressed.
