hey thomas i got my hard copy today in the mail, ordered from amazon (black cover version also) - i havnt had a look yet but i agree it looks like a nice book for reference i have found another interesting book, relating more towards 8bit hardware/cpu and so on (explaining things like the ALU, Flags, Buses, etc) it's not an old book either, it's quite recent in release i will post the details here about this interesting looking book when my copy arrives (hopefully one or two days)

This is the book I used to learn 6809 programming. It's a great reference.

The kokovec recommendation is enough for me. If I am for learn 6809 assembly it will be with this book. Thanks vtk for sharing!

Don't forget to check out the SEX instruction. The 6809 was the last Motorola processor to have a SEX instruction.

I use the pdf version quite a lot.
Also for the SEX instruction (sign extension from B into A), I bet the chip/assembly designers were having a very good laugh as most of the time I used it it was immediately followed by a "Store D" instruction, which is STD.
Here is a code snippet from Sub Wars to illustrate:
;; Store the incrementor as a 16 bit number ldb tempB2 sex std tempW1

hi guys, see below... here is a second book which looks interesting for understanding what is happening 'beneath the surface' of computer hardware (like the vectrex) my hard copy of the book arrived today, so i have not had the time to read the book yet (so cannot give a review), but i think it looks good; it is not a large book so will not take a long time to read the book is called: But How Do It Know - By J. Clark Scottthe book is available from eg. Amazon and eBay ... below: here is a youtube video to help someone decide if this is the sort of book they are interested in reading .. (note: watch this video on youtube instead of the small preview window here .. and watch it in 480p or higher resolution, otherwise you may find it difficult to see/read the text which is shown in the video) Watch on Youtube

I know it isn't really relevant here, but I've just been clearing through my old books in the loft and have come across a few 'machine code' programming books for the ZX Spectrum, also found my old, well used, 'Mapping the Atari' book. None for 6809 specifically though.
I haven't looked to see what these go for on eBay, anybody use the Spectrum here?
