I got my Hexed today (after paying £13 customs charge, grrr) and my son and I have had a few goes... still figuring out the cards and tactics but we've enjoyed it.
We went through most of my overlays and shortlisted a few to try and decided Starhawk worked best; different colour for the scores and orbs to the main playing field and a shape to the lower section that looks a bit like a card table going off into the distance.
Second choice was StarShip which has a nice yellow square in the middle which makes a nice spot to drop your card and is pretty much in line with where the CPU drops its cards.
Will check out the details of the cards on the link in the instructions so we can know fully what is going on.

It doesn't come with instructions, or are they really scant, like with the Sector-X and Zantis games?

There's a site George posted that explains the cards. You at least get an idea of what the cards do: Hexed Cards

That could take up some space on those small instructions indeed, or at least that's what I'm assuming, that George did that to cut down on costs.

I converted the text on that page to a standard document page so I can have it as a reference when I play.

There's a small instruction book and a link to online information about the cards. Also on screen there is a description of what each of your cards will do when you hover over it.
