Hi I'm new to the Vectrex boards!
So I just bought 2 Vectrexes. I was able to find one with a very low serial number. #0012487. So this is my main Vectrex. So between the two Vectrexes, I noticed that the screen sizes are a lot different. On my main Vectrex, the display size seems too large. On some games, like Vector Pilot, the 2nd players score in just barely outside of the screen. On the other Vectrex, the display size seems too small! It's almost like the display doesent use the entire screen. Since it's not my main Vectrex it's not a big issue, but on my main one, I was wondering if there is a way to shrink the display down just a tad. Maybe a half inch. I've heard that you can do this with a test cart. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks!

There is a way to adjust the size of the screen but it's not as straight forward as you would think. There are two pots on the power board that increase size in the X and Y direction respectively (R401, R408). You may adjust these using the procedure outlined in the service manual using the "Test" cart ROM. Be aware that you should make sure that the distortion pattern keeps all the vectors positioned correctly. I have several Vectrex's and even after a cap kit they all vary in screen size. This is partially due to the age of the machine but also other factors like the distance of the yoke from the tube.

Hi I'm new to the Vectrex boards! Welcome, and do consider signing up for an account Good luck with the displays, as Vectrexes can be a bit finicky to deal with. (Crazy that you have one with a too large and one with a too small display problem!)
