Quick question: Does anyone know the type screw that is used in the cartridges? I bought a clear shell but it didn't come with a screw. Thanks!

Screw Size: US Size: #4-24 w x ⅝." Metric Size: 16mm l x 3mm w Head Type: Pan Head (commonly available) or Cheese Head (Original era look but harder to find) Drive Blade Type and Size: Type 1 Cross Recessed also know as Phillips #1. Depending on the part of the world you live another type of cross bit might be easier to obtain. Such as a Reed and Prince (Frearson) or Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) bit. Thread Pitch: Coarse, 24 Threads Per Inch (TPI). Not critical. A fine or course thread pitch from an RC model screw kit might also be used. Screw Tip Point Style: Type 25 / Type B, Flat cut-off point with a thread cutting notch (course thread). However, it is more likely easier to obtain a screw with a Type A needle point tip at a local hardware/DIY store. Screw Color and Finish: While the screw can be any color, the original screw used on the Vectrex cartridges were black oxide / black chromate . The finish was semi-gloss to a full gloss perhaps with a wax or lacquer coating. I don't think the finish had as much quality control as did the size. A good source for black screws in this color is one from a radio controlled (RC) model screw kit. Such as those found in RC car screw kits. But truthfully, the color can be anything you prefer. i kind of like brass in the red and clear shells Amazon is a good place to find black screws. For original look get the Type B point. Otherwise Type AB points work well too. A pack of 100 will run anywhere from $5.04 [USD] to $9.99 [USD] + Shipping. Search Term " 4-24 x ⅝ Black Screw Pan Head Type B " Example Amazon search return possibility (June 2022) www.amazon.com/Steel-Finish.../dp/B00GID6KN4Some pictures for you to use in your decision: ScrewsCarts with screws. Original on top. Reproduction on bottom. Note the original carts did not have a hole in the back half of the shell. Instead, the screw pierced the shell during assembly. Hence the need for a self-tapping screw.

I bought the #4 3/4" Phillips Screws and they worked perfectly. I believe it was $1.80 for 8 of them. I bought them at Lowes here in the States. Thanks again!

A Better part to use for the General Consumer Electronics (GCE) / Milton Bradley (MB) Vectrex / Bandai バンダイ 光速船 ("Light Speed Ship" / "Light Speed Fast Ship") Kousokusen Cartridge Case Screw Steel Sheet Metal Screw Phillips Drive, Pan Head, #4-24 Size and Thread, 5/8" Length", Black Color Zinc Oxide Finish, Thread Cutting, Type 25 Point. Note: 3/4" Length screw a Type 25 or Type B flat Point will also fit if the OEM 5/8" length cannot be obtained. Ensure you don't use the sharp point style as you will damage the case top with deformity and penetration. Some pictures of the OEM screw laid next to a ruler. photos.app.goo.gl/AyTq81TdUq6QSozR9
