I hope so. The consensus in my household is to just get the DS with the larger screen. But the 3DS seems about like an updated Virtual Boy which has possibilities.

After he buys another guitar with it first, but sj would probably let you polish it and then light the candles that surrounds the shrine for it to sit upon.

Well, it's a year and a half later and I have just acquired a 3DS XL.
I think it's pretty cool!
So far I just have Zelda, Ocarina of Time 3D, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. ... I pretty much skipped the N64 generation of games so this is a new one to me. It's also what put me over the edge to go ahead and buy the 3DS, after reading the reviews. I knew that a lot of people slightly younger than me loved that game (and the N64), but I didn't realize that there was such an overwhelming consensus. Many consider this the best Zelda game and among the very best video games ever. ... And reading reviews of the 3DS reissue, many consider this the definitive version of the game, and one of the best 3D experiences on the console.
Unfortunately it looks like there are really only a handful of 3DS games that interest me. Kid Icarus Uprising is in the mail and I will probably also buy the NES Kid Icarus 3D download. Maybe Star Fox 64. That's about it.
... BTW it was the "End of Nintendo?" thread that lead to me getting into this. The articles (I think linked by Trek) compared the Wii U to the 3DS, Wii U being mostly a big failure. I didn't realize how well received the 3DS was. So then I read reviews of it and played one at the store and was sold.
... Also BTW, I learned recently that some early NES games had a 3D mode. Rad Racer was one. I think it was meant simply to be viewed with any red/blue glasses, but I tried it and it didn't work well. ... Cool and funny to see such an early 3D effort by Nintendo though.

Well, it's a year and a half later and I have just acquired a 3DS XL. I think it's pretty cool! Great news! The 3DS is an interesting system. I've tested it out, but unfortunately my eyes don't respond well to the 3D mode. I'm tempted to purchase one for the classic titles, but my Nintendo DS hasn't been played in months because I tend to leave the handhelds alone unless I'm traveling. I'm missing out on a great library of games, though. Maybe I'll consider it. So far I just have Zelda, Ocarina of Time 3D, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. ... And reading reviews of the 3DS reissue, many consider this the definitive version of the game, and one of the best 3D experiences on the console. I'm glad you're enjoying Ocarina of Time! As I've said before, it's one of my absolute favorite Zelda games. The way it appears on the 3DS, actually, is exactly how I imagined a Zelda game would look on the GameCube before Wind Waker came out and cut my theory to pieces. I had to learn to accept Wind Waker for what it was. But now, ten years later, you're playing the exact game I wanted to play in 2003: an updated Ocarina of Time. That's all I wanted, and I'm surprised it took Nintendo this long to develop it. Unfortunately it looks like there are really only a handful of 3DS games that interest me. Kid Icarus Uprising is in the mail and I will probably also buy the NES Kid Icarus 3D download. Maybe Star Fox 64. That's about it. Well, I can recommend Star Fox 64 3D wholeheartedly. The N64 version was one of my favorite space/flight combat games of the mid-1990s; it set the standard for the genre. It also coined a number of memes: static.fjcdn.com/pictures/Star_f08508_918880.jpgstatic.fjcdn.com/pictures/DO_9bba66_232787.jpgI'd strongly urge you to try the next Super Smash Bros. game, which is scheduled for a 2014 3DS release. Super Smash Bros. is one of my favorite game series, and it has become an important part of my weekly gaming routine with my cousins. If you're not familiar with the premise, imagine a universe where iconic Nintendo characters fight each other in arenas. Every character has skills that are derived from their respective games: Mario shoots fireballs, Samus fires her arm cannon, Link wields a sword, and so forth. Players use these special abilities to damage opponents and knock them off the edge of the stage. Score enough knockouts to win the round. Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Fox, Kirby, Samus, and Link are franchise standards and will be present in the 3DS game. Pit (Kid Icarus) and Sonic are going to be returning, too. Also, Nintendo has already announced that Mega Man will make his Super Smash Bros. debut in 2014. So, the roster is absolutely stacked with video game royalty. Whether or not you like fighting games, Super Smash Bros. is very addictive to play, and now that you own a 3DS, I'd highly recommend that you look into it. ... Also BTW, I learned recently that some early NES games had a 3D mode. Rad Racer was one. I think it was meant simply to be viewed with any red/blue glasses, but I tried it and it didn't work well. ... Cool and funny to see such an early 3D effort by Nintendo though. That's right, and 3D WorldRunner was another game that utilized the red-and-blue glasses. It's funny that Nintendo never abandoned its love affair with 3D graphics; it took them almost thirty years to make it widely accessible.

If you mainly want it for the classic titles you could try the new 2DS, which plays 3DS games in 2D. Also did you know that you can turn the 3D off on the 3DS? At least on the XL you can. ... I actually don't see a whole lot in the way of "classic titles" on the 3DS, outside of the few already mentioned. But maybe you know better. For me Ocarina of Time was enough though, since I've never played it. Well, I can recommend Star Fox 64 3D wholeheartedly. The N64 version was one of my favorite space/flight combat games of the mid-1990s; it set the standard for the genre. Ok. I will give it a try. ... I really need an action game or something to take a break from Zelda with. Whether or not you like fighting games, Super Smash Bros. is very addictive to play, and now that you own a 3DS, I'd highly recommend that you look into it. Yeh, I don't like fighting games, but I've been wrong before so I'll consider it. ... I never would have expected to enjoy a SOCCER game, but Super Mario Strikers is by far the most fun I ever had on the Game Cube. For a few years it had become a holiday season tradition among me and some of my otherwise non-gamer friends. Everyone would be in town for a week or so and Mario Soccer was a staple, as popular with the females as with the males. It's funny that Nintendo never abandoned its love affair with 3D graphics; it took them almost thirty years to make it widely accessible. Yes I agree and also it's strange in other ways that the history behind Nintendo innovations makes some of their apparent 'novelties' actually appear pretty consistent. The original Game Boy was said to be the result not just of the success with NES and the idea for a portable system, but also specifically the enhanced implementation of Game & Watch technology and design (LCD display..). ... And then the DS, years later, seemed like a crazy idea, but actually very decisively resembles the folding Game Watch titles. ... Dare we compare the "gyro sensors" and other motion controls of the Wii and 3DS to the old ROB peripheral, (which literally involved physical spinning gyro-scopic tops, as well as optical communication not unlike the Wii remote)? ... Heh, too bad I don't think Nintendo has any history with Vector Graphics.

Majora's Mask will be reissued for the 3DS this month. I didn't even notice that this was in the works until a week or so.
.. So I've just "pre-ordered" a video game for the first time in my life.
Also RE the original topic of this thread, a new 3DS system is coming, (this month in U.S. I think). Supposedly the 3D effect is improved, among other things. The name of this hardware revision is New 3DS.
