I built a Sega Light Phaser to Vectrex adapter today. Here's a quick (and low quality) video of me using it with Animaction.

Largest range from a Vectrex controller? I wanna spend at least a couple of hours in your workspace there

If you ever find yourself in Scotland, you are welcome to do so

Wow that looked great. I like the range you can get with it. Very exciting times if this can become a thing and have games released for it. I have been very excited for this since the idea came about. I can imagine a Vextrex Light Gun with pack-in game bundle boxed package - and just that thought makes me feel like a kid at Christmas. ^_^

This is awesome. Would you share the circuit? I would like to build one.
(Also, I'd like to add that I have basically the same setup, Vectrex on top of a display case I built for old 80s electronic handhelds.)

No problem. I just remapped the pins using this info : www.gamesx.com/controldata/vectrex.htmand segaretro.org/Light_Phaser#PinoutSMS Pin 7 (Light sensor) to Vectrex Pin 4 (Button 4) SMS Pin 6 (Trigger) to Vectrex Pin 3 (Button 3) SMS Pin 5 (VCC) to Vectrex Pin 7 (VCC) SMS Pin 8 (GND) to Vectrex Pin 8 (GND) I'll be developing games using this pinout. Of course this still requires you to press buttons on the controller in port 1 for the original Vectrex lightpen releases but it'd be simple to make an adapter with 2 db9 plugs for use with those games. I chose pin 3 for trigger so we could make an adapter with passthrough for Atarivox (which uses pins 1 and 2 to communicate) or Atari driving controller. This is awesome. Would you share the circuit? I would like to build one. (Also, I'd like to add that I have basically the same setup, Vectrex on top of a display case I built for old 80s electronic handhelds.)

Very cool, so the light gun basically acts as a button when it actually sees light. I will make mine the same pinout so our stuff will be compatible. (Ordered a light gun already from ebay.)

Yes, the pin is set low when light is detected by the gun. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with

Hmm. This seems like a really simple mod, and I have a Sega Light Phaser I don't use much... maybe I'll give it a go. I do like the look of the Light Phaser with the Vectrex though. Slap some Vectrex Logos on that puppy and I think it would look convincingly "Official". I want to try it with Wack-a-Mole. (Snipe-a-Mole).

I've posted a lightgun (and lightpen) compatible version of Whack-a-mole in the WAM thread

Nice. This is looking great as well. I am so excited for all these Light Gun games! Now I just gotta mod my Sega Light Phaser... I'm also imagining something like Flappy Hunt (Duck Hunt with Flappy Birds as the ducks) and something along the lines of Hogan's Alley, maybe with Vecto? Someday maybe.

Thanks. I'm planning to put Ghost Bursters and Whack-a-mole on cart once finished and make a small run of adapter cables to go along with them.
