The folks from RetroUSB will be releasing a brand new NES console called the AVS. The AVS is a revision of Nintendo’s 8-bit system with built in HDMI output and many other features. Some of these features include both NES and Famicom cartridge slots, built in Game Genie support, and four control pad ports. The console will offer support for games from all regions, so it doesn't matter where the game was released you'll be able to play it. RetroUSB are hoping to release the AVS this summer, though no specific date has been given. The console is set to cost just $185 upon release. If you're on Facebook, check out RetroUSB's Facebook page for info.

Nice. An inexpensive Analogue NT.

I ordered one after I saw the reviews on Youtube. There's no need to worry about lag or getting an upscaler like the Framemeister. It doesn't seem to have hardly any compatibility issues, the biggest deal being that it does work with multicarts. 185 USD is the final cost, no additional charge for HDMI output. If you care about an authentic experience there are options for different color pallets, scan-lines, flickering sprites (as well as optimized sprites), different adjustments to screen size including widescreen, square and everything in between, left side data on or off, and plays with all the original glitches. Additional features include adjustable turbo for any controller, built in codes, and an internet scoreboard plus it uses original controllers and the 8Bitdo wireless receiver that allows use with Wii controllers, X-box and PS controllers as well as the 8Bitdo wireless line like the NES30 PRO.
I've been looking for something like this for a while. Analogue NT is expensive, out of print, has lag on HDMI TVs, has compatibility issues and will scratch your carts. The Retron 5 is cheaply made, also has lag and in addition to compatibility issues will not play mulicarts due to the fact that it plays games from RAM rather than directly from the cart. There's so much hassle with getting original toasters or top-loaders to upscale. You need special boards installed (if they're still available) plus the Frameister and then you have to worry about the pins, etc. and really the only added benefits are extra compatibility with a few games and being able to use the Light gun/Rob if you hook it up to a CRT (though the Light Gun games are on the Virtual Console).
No matter what, its worth checking out RetroUSB's "launch titles". They have a bunch of homebrew games that look fantastic including a Warlords clone, a shump and one a lot of people are talking about 12 Seconds which is a platformer.

I have been debating whether or not to get one of these. I may end up with one. I do have a Retron N5, which has worked fine, but this is such a nice bit of hardware that will let me play NES games on my UHDTV...

They keep coming out with Firmware updates to improve it and its already terrific. The color palette options were in the last update and they were something that some people had mentioned would have been nice.
