First off, I'm a pretty open-minded person. I'm also naturally suspicious, and it's real easy (and annoying) for things to be posted on the internet that isn't true, and rumors easily take off.
However, I still bought into all of the negativity of the Wii for months before and after it came out in regards to how weak it was and all. I argued it wasn't revolutionary due to its controllers, as there were wireless ones made for the Atari 2600 decades before (yeah, except for one thing that I'll get to later... ). And what's with the same graphics chip that was used for their previous console of the GameCube?!
Then my mother got one
Wow. They really made up for the graphics (actually the Wii IS capable of fairly good graphics, but when it comes to the family-friendly releases [like the ones Nintendo does], there usually isn't a real big attempt with those to make the graphics halfway decent) by coming out with some really addictive games. Of course there are still stinkers though (what system doesn't have any?), but this was a pretty nice surprise.
And people are ridiculous by calling the system "lame" overall. Funny, every single game out of hundreds made for the Wii are bad? Yeah, sure, especially since several Wii titles just a couple of years ago were in the top 10 best sellers for the entire year. And having idiots like Shia LaBeouf proclaiming that those that are into the Wii are "fake gamers". Yeah, right: I've been playing video games way before you were born. So due to playing the Wii I'm a "fake gamer"? Uh huh. But then you shouldn't listen to actors anyway. (Hey Shia! What's a Vectrex? Yeah, that's what I thought ;D ) And you have to admit the severe irony of people making fun of the system, yet for months now there's been the Kinect for the XBox 360, with the same types of controllers. So if it's so crap why are similar products out? Funny how that is.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming Wii U to see what that has in store for us. Those controllers look like they're pretty expensive, with that touch screen! Pretty killer...
Oh, and the Wii controllers not being revolutionary that I mentioned earlier? I realized later there isn't much of a comparison when those wireless 2600 controllers usually didn't work. Ha ha.
