He should be shipping them. He said they would be shipped between the end of July and through August, so some of us won't get them until late in the month. I know I'm towards the end since I have a high number.

Yeah, but it sounds like the July part was canceled. The release date has changed many times over the last year and a half or whatever.

So, now we are looking at August/September. We can only wait. My cart is number 26, and I got a generic email saying the early ones should start shipping in August. From the website the box looks very fancy and so does the overlay. These things are made by other persons/companies and I guess delays in their manufacture have caused a knockon effect and Fury to move the release date.

I guess its to do with personal taste, but I agree with George: having a clear transparency with no colour tone negates the point of an overlay. Most overlays don't add anything to the game, being of constant colour with some printed graphics on the overlay edge. But boy when they do add something more the results can be beautiful. Of the original games Pole Position is one of the few overlays that really gives the effect of colour and in my opinion really enhances the look of the game. Of the new games, Vectrexians and Vector Pilot are fantastic overlays also. The colours are thick and not transparent and really do make the games seem in colour. So my request to George is please don't make these overlays clear. I agree as well, clear is basically a waste of time (of course it makes losing one less painful). A lot of vector games weren't really color, anyway. I don't mind a b&w Asteroids or colored-overlay Asteroids Deluxe. When done right they add just enough accents without being crazy. Starhawk is a good example of this, I think. Of course I'm also a huge fan of Tempest and Star Trek, two color vector games that would be mostly impossible to recreate on the Vectrex. When done wrong, though, it makes you wonder why. Look at celtroniclabs' avatar, for example. Star Castle. That is what Star Castle should look like but from what I remember the Vectrex version has the colored rings too far out, I think everything is yellow and then there is one ring (red?) that doesn't color anything except the occasional shot. I may be wrong about that (or played a very out-of-whack Vectrex) but that always baffled me. Here is a bad looking review (the camera is not straight on to the Vectrex) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU3xBSNBE3gYou can see that all 3 spinning walls are all inside the yellow part of the overlay, the other rings don't cover anything. Something that I hope can be rectified by omeganu and his repro overlays. And I don't know why Protector's official overlay is basically all pink. There's a game that could have had at the very least a different color for the radar and the score. Wasn't Space Invaders a b&w raster game with a colored overlay? Or maybe it was Deluxe Space Invaders. I like the overlay for Warrior, it looks cool and is a good compromise for not being able to have the fantastic artwork of the arcade game.

Yeah, I thought it looked pretty bad. That's why I use my Scramble overlay, since it has "earth" tones (green and brown), as you are flying over a planet as it is Wasn't Space Invaders a b&w raster game with a colored overlay? Or maybe it was Deluxe Space Invaders. Might've been both. I know the original was, at least. (Again, Scramble overlay with Y*A*S*I, since the invaders turn green once they start getting close to you, like it was originally!)

The overlay system of the Vectrex articulates the whole 'mini arcade experience' that they were trying to sell, and 'cabinet decoration' is part of this. ... ... Besides Pole Position, a couple games that are WAY better with their overlays than they are without are Web Wars and Bedlam. Web Wars' overlay is an absolutely amazing improvement. ... But if you can regress back to your initial encounters with Vectrex, I think you can recall the curiosity of these "screen overlays", and recognize how exotic these little bits of color are in EVERY instance. ... The Warrior one looks cool and a bit groundbreaking in that it adds some illustrations to the border, the way many arcade cabs did. I THINK OVERLAYS ARE AWESOME! That there is a console that combines vector graphics with colorful printed 'screens' continues to amaze me.

Wasn't Space Invaders a b&w raster game with a colored overlay? Or maybe it was Deluxe Space Invaders. The Vectrex port of Star Castle could have been done better. I also noticed the same thing about the overlay.. That one is a head scratcher.. Only 8 segments per ring, and it just doesn't have the feel of the arcade, when playing it. Granted, I have only played the Vectrex version on an emulator. But, it is just weak, compared to the arcade machine.. Especially the sound effects. The Vectrex just can't compete with the arcade's discrete sound board. Both Space Invader games were BW with overlays. First one had a red strip at the top and a green one at the bottom. Deluxe had a gradated overlay, which made it more colorful than the original. Plus both of them used the half-silvered mirror with backdrop technique like Warrior. The only Cinematronics game to use both (overlay+mirror+backdrop), like Space Invaders, was Solar Quest. Which I believe was their last BW vector game to see a full production run.

It is really nice that even with all the headaches included that good people continue to turn out new games.
Only speaking for myself I if I had made a homebrew I would have given up after my first game. Then used my connections in the State Department to erase any memory of said game!
So Thank You to the individuals who care about the releasing a quality game no matter how much personal time it consumes.

Gah! Every time I see that there is a new reply in this thread I come in thinking that someone has received their copy of Warrior and come to tell us what it's like. I hope that happens soon!

Hopefully. George was also sick for the entire week of when the Classic Gaming Expo happened (or whatever it was that just transpired last weekend), so he missed going to that, so that might've brought more delays.
