Just tried this out, it's getting really polished! A couple of things... 1. Did you know you can use all four buttons to fire...all at the same time with your right hand? It's like manual-auto-fire! That's going to give you arcade-hand, I'm just sayin'.  2. I don't want to diss the game, it's really good to play, but the dotted 'lanes' going up the screen don't seem to be sync'd with the alien coming down. I had a look at the original arcade version to check and that one does sync, when the aliens land and stream towards you in a straight line, they follow a line that's parallel to the dotted lanes. In Hera-Primera, the stream of aliens doesn't move in sync with the dotted lanes if you move left and right. If you know what I mean. It doesn't really affect gameplay, but I couldn't help notice it. I played it a few times today and made it to level 5 at about 3880 points and it started to get really busy on the screen, but no slow down, there's some good code in there! |

Upon d/l'ing the latest beta version of Hera Primera dated 6-02-2018, I like the addition of the necessary high score screen + high score initials. If you let Hero Primera run through a cycle of alternating between the main title screen & the high score screen for about 15 times or so, a "self-starting" gaming session will occur without any input from an end-user whatsoever. Slick overall presentation including the high score initial entry portion indeed. I think a demo mode would sweeten this HP homebrew as the final thing to be implemented that alternates between the main title screen, the high score screen & finally a self-runnning demo mode to show the end-user what to do and what the scoring parameters are for destroying each enemy. As it stands, this latest release clocks in at 30kb file screen (pushing ever to closer to the 32kb file size barrier). Awesome background music during a gaming session and at the main title screen as well.
I think a high score initial entry screen should include a "countdown timer" to show exactly how much time the end-user has before times up and it's not possible to do so anymore.
I like the inclusion of auto-fire if you do hold down any of the four buttons with this latest beta release (this wasn't possible with the 7/2017 dated beta release of HP though -- the one that automatically gives the end-user 9 lives to begin with at the start of a session).

According to Sebastian of Polyplay, Polyplay had problems with production of the overlays of Hera Primera. This is why the game hasn't been available in summer last year. Latest info is that shipping of Hera Primera is supposed to start end of February.

Somehow that slipped by me. Just a coincidence that its similar to the update about the Vectrex Encyclopedia that is holding up people who ordered it with their copies of Vectral.

Today, I've received the following e-mail of Polyplay:
Hello,
unfortunately, after the completion of Hera Primera, it turned out that the modules do not work on all revisions of the Vectrex. The game only runs on older models with serial numbers 3XXXXXX. Unfortunately, the game does not work on models with serial numbers 31XXXXXXX or 4XXXXXX.
I have therefore stopped sending the games. I am currently working on a solution. I have to open all the sealed game boxes again, take the modules apart and fix the circuit boards. As I am doing this on my own, it will unfortunately take some time.
As soon as I have finished reworking all the modules, shipping will continue. I think it will continue at the beginning of June.
All those who have already received their Hera Primera will receive a replacement board for exchange.

I think it's very honourable that Sebastian even intends to send out cartridges to all those people who have received a copy of Hera Primera - regardless whether the bug really shows up or not.
Since I have a 3xxxxxx Vectrex in my collection, I see no real need to send me another circuit board. Therefore, I've just contacted Sebastian and asked him whether I could restraint from receiving and extra circuit board. I'll post here once I have received Sebastians reply.
