So I saw a recent post (with a tad bit of drama in it) that mentioned a high score in pole position. This reminded me of my high score that I achieved in Vector War 5 - Pole Position: 77650 - date: 11/4/2015 i907.photobucket.com/albums/ac271/jclarkyyy/pp.jpgIt appears I am not the only one who has had this score so I suppose I share an unofficial world record. I'm just wondering if the community feels that this is really the highest achievable score for this game? I don't believe I hit anything except i may have 'rubbed' against the side of the road for a split second. What do you think? Is it possible to get over 77650? I suppose the same discussion could be had about Tour De France, which I believe I have the highest known score on. If I remember correctly, I didn't hit anything and had the 'peddle to the metal'. Tour De France 00:56:48 date: 11/4/2015 i907.photobucket.com/albums/ac271/jclarkyyy/TourdeFrance%201.jpgI suppose its analogous to the 'perfect' pac man game or any game that has a start/end and has only a certain amount of possible points. Hyperchase is another one that comes to mind, although I haven't achieved it yet - I think sub 100 sec is possible.

First thing that came to mind Coleco was your almost perfect score (and some very close/tough competition) from Vector War V (because I was there, competing in that myself), and instantly thought when I saw this was that in order to beat the score you set - someone would have to play a "perfect game". A tie is impressive enough! Is there such a thing as a "perfect game" score in Vectrex Pole Position? Is it possible to data mine absolute values in the time allotted to the player under ideal circumstances? Ah, I'm glad I have veteran status in that war,.. many discoveries found (Dark Tower: Ending Confirmed with video), many records set (Pole Position - in the tightest race between competitors ever, and Tour De France as well!).

Been waiting to get my high scores up on Ian's website, he seems like a busy guy so I can understand the wait. I was also thinking of posting on highscore.com but then I'd have to redo the scores with a video camera.
Trying to think through other vectrex games that have a finite amount of points because it has an end. Blitz? others?

The highest score you can get on Gravitrex is 252,000 if you scoop up every single fuel tank, rescue every single human and beat the game.
There's only a slight amount of fudging of a few hundred points depending on how many of the alien interceptor ships you shoot while going through a planet and that's it.

Congratulations, yes. 77,650 would be considered the new P.P. world record. I wonder if 77,700 might be the actual 'max score' for this game, considering your 'bump' against the side?

I play on a regular plug-and-play and it only let me score 58,900 and then cut off when i crossed the finish line with 5 seconds left.

One way to find out... hack the game so that the collision detection does not result in slowing the car, and make it switch gears automatically at just the right time, then run a whole bunch of times because there also is some random car count bonus thing at the end (perhaps set this to the max it will give out). I've had perfect runs only to get a low score because of that randomness. My son and I have played Pole Position a BUNCH, and it's possible to get 77,650 with the perfect conditions... not sure if it can go higher. Our best was 77,450 and at some point on Facebook I worked out how it could add up to 77,650.

When I got that score I obviously had tried countless runs. When I got to the end of that run I knew it was pretty flawless and the score reflected that. I just wish I recorded it on video.
In my opinion I dont think its random but perhaps the cars are. This thread makes me want to play again. Maybe for the next vector warz.

I have recorded some of my best games, and the number of cars you pass is the random thing, which makes the bonus go up or down. It's a real downer when you run a perfect race and you end up with a low score because of the randomizer. Games like this are "Quarter Stealers", but at least it's a fun game to master. Getting that high score is a grind though.
