Hmm, looks like some decisions have to be made. Berzerk versionsThis evening I played Berzerk three times. All three games were above 5.000 points with three or four lives left. Then, the game went berzerk and a random score was displayed. Sure enough those random scores are invalid. This happened to me not once but three times in a row. I think with the normal Berzerk game you can reach a score up to 5.000 and a bit more but not really high scores with 8000 or more points. Or you must be very lucky and I don't like lucky games much. Here, I'd suggest to let everyone play Berzerk II or Berzerk Debugged. AFAIK, Berzerk II and Berzerk Debugged are the same versions.
@all: I don't want to start a big discussion but would like to hear other voices before deciding, here. Malban : You've reached a highscore of 12220. Which version of Berzerk did you play? I have Berzerk 2 on the original SK multicart, the original US version and VecFlash... so I'm down for whatever. My score of 4570 on the US Berzerk cart was hard, and the robots were shooting at me insanely fast by then. I just got 6420 on Berzerk II though pretty easily without too much robot chaos. This is one where when it's obviously bugged out, you should not submit that score... but it could be hard to tell in some cases. I think this is just one that the rule creator needs to make a call on, and we live by / die by that rule ;D ... FWIW, I don't have Frontier and don't think I could even get it in time to submit, so I have to be ok with that. No biggie.

Len came home and right away outgunned me in Frontier. She only has one score to submit for now. But she has only started. Player: LenI love my daughter, but could not let her win over me THAT easily in my favourite game in this year's war. Player: Fruktodlaren (Tony)

With my Berzerk original cartridge (not Berzerk II nor Debugged) I can play the game without any issues till 12K points more or less. At this levels the game became almost impossible to defeat (robots move much faster than the player and they shoots through walls with speed-light velocity ).

Thank you for this interesting info, arquillos . It sounds as if even the original Vectrex cartridges contain different versions of Berzerk. Or you were just very lucky.

Malban : You've reached a highscore of 12220. Which version of Berzerk did you play? That's probably valid, as I've gotten 12,000 on mine before and it glitches out sometimes. I think what the deal is that if there's too many projectiles firing at once that causes the screw-up, because I was firing steadily once last night while waiting for a robot to come into my line of fire, then one or two others were shooting (quickly) and the score started getting messed up. And this was early in the game, I only had a few thousand going on.

Space Frenzy 10380 Frontier 8 Hyperchase 122 For Berzerk I have all options available. Would tend to play Berzerk II / debugged version but will wait what Helmut decides.

Cosmic Chasm 54,805Ugh! What I HATE about this game (/reared its ugly head) is the collision detection problem where you're trying to drill a hole, it won't do it even though you're barely inching forward and then you die, or you've got a damn opening, you've plenty of room and you die for no reason. I had that happen with the last two ships on this game. Oh well, a decent score for now, I might try again later for more. [/rant]

Berzerk: I used a "normal" Berzerk card. I asked what version to use in advance, since especially the "shooting thru walls" is very cumbersome in high levels using the "normal" version.
As mentioned, I think the crash occurs when to many shots are in the air at the same time... Fred Taft documented that (as well as the shots going thru walls).
Berzerk debugged, is AFAIK a corrected version done by Fred Taft.
Berzerk II, is a corrected (not officially released) version from GCE.

Highscore list has been updated. limitzer0, fmml, Malban, and D-Type have qualified. Current top3 ranking: 1. Malban (600pts) 2. arquillos (515pts) 3. limitizer0 & VectorX (490pts) In the highscore list I've added a table with the top 6 points. This might be of some use. ___ As Malban pointed out, there was a discussion regarding Berzerk right before the beginning of the Vector War and at that stage decision was that the normal Berzerk version is played. Let's stick to that.

Any chance of taking this Dark Tower submission? I was so excited I forgot to hold up the code. If not, one of my runs after beating it is better than my previous submission so I guess use that. This is not the game to forget your code on... Dark Tower - Complete (Pending your approval) or 91,400 Hyperchase - 111.9 Berzerk - 8640
