Sean Kelly posted this update on FB. I thought I'd share it here...
Vectrex Controller Feet
I have several controllers that are missing their rubber feet so a year or so ago I bought a sheet of self-adhesive "rubber" and a punch to make my own. I made a few but they just weren't quite right and they didn't stick anywhere near as strong as I would have liked. Maybe I had the wrong material - I don't know. What I do know is that I wasn't happy with the results. So a few weeks ago I decided to find a company that actually made these sorts of things professionally. I peeled off a couple of the original feet I had on a mint controller, sent them to this company and asked "Can you make this?" The end result is what I currently have on my webpage – a set of four brand new rubber feet for your Vectrex controller. As I described, these are not something I am making in my basement...these were made by a company that makes rubber feet/bumpers for hundreds of other devices. They are the exact size, shape thickness and material as the originals. They are backed with 3M VHB adhesive and should stay on your Vectrex controller longer than you will be able to use it.
Cube Quest Overlay
It has been almost 20 years since Cube Quest was released for the Vectrex back at Classic Gaming Expo 2002. It was released with a box and manual and despite an overlay being shown on the front of the box, an overlay was never produced - until now! The Cube Quest overlay was made to the same specifications as my Multi-Cart and Tour De France overlay and is the same size, shape AND thickness as the originals.
Cube Quest Manual
The manual that we released with Cube Quest in 2002 was an embarrassment. We probably could have done better but the desktop publishing options at the time were nothing like what we have available to us today. So in the same way as I re-did the Pitchers Duel manual a few months back, I have also re-done the Cube Quest manual. It is very closely modeled after the original Vectrex manual style and, together with the overlay, completes the game much more professionally.
Boxed Cube Quest
In addition to the new overlay and redesigned manual, I have also found a small stash of the original boxes that were produced in 2002. While supplies last, I will be offering BOXED, complete copies of Cube Quest. This is not a reprint of the box - these are original 2002 boxes. Even though the color used on the Cube Quest box does not match the original GCE coloring as well as the more modern boxes I've done, I will NOT be doing a reprint or redesign of the Cube Quest box. It just costs too much money to print boxes for such a small market. When these are gone...they're gone.
Test Cart Overlay
This is just one of those things that I did because I could. An original Vectrex Test Cartridge is pretty much impossible to find and the overlay that GCE made to use with the Test Cartridge is much more difficult still. I believe only two of the originals have ever been found. In conjunction with the Test Cartridge, the overlay is used to calibrate the Vectrex display. There are only a few people who will use this overlay for its intended purpose but since it is something that GCE made, some people would still like to have one in their collection. I have made a perfect copy of the original Vectrex Test Overlay that is the exact size, shape AND thickness of the original GCE made overlay. The Test Cartridge IS included on the multi-cart so even if you don't have an original, you can still use this overlay with the multi-cart.
"Hacked" Multi-Cart
Every year I attend a local gaming convention called Midwest Gaming Classic which is held in Milwaukee. I always try to have something new and unique at that show for the people who attend. This year I came up with the idea to have a "hacked" version my multi-cart. I had a batch of my regular multi-cart PCBs that had been programmed incorrectly and didn't work. So while I could have just tossed them, instead I decided to spend the time to repurpose them by removing the chip and programming it with new data. What I did was take some of the games that Chris Binarystar hacked to include infinite lives or time or the like (yes, I asked Chris for permission) and do a bunch more myself. I ended-up with 39 titles that have all be hacked to include unlimited time, lives, etc so you can play them until you puke! I only made a limited number of these cartridges and expected to sell all/most at Midwest Classic. Since that convention has been cancelled due to the COVID outbreak, I'm going to offer them on my webpage.
