7 more, the number of participants has gone up to 22! Some of them might still drop out over the coming weeks once things get serious, but 22 right now is really great

You might have to consider using paging for the 2021 student multicart! :-)

You guys must be doing better than we are with education here

Great to read that Vectrex Academy 2021 comes to life and that quite a number of students joined it. Thank you, for your first updates on the project gallery, Peer. I've just read the description of DBMH which put a smile on my face. The game concept reminds me a bit of Cosmic Arc when asteroids rush in. Some variation with the love arrows sounds like a good idea to me. I wish all participating students good luck, fun and success in implementing their games in Vectrex Academy 2021!

Just had a second look at the projects that are listed in the project gallery so far. - Vega has three good ideas, especially Tanks and Defenders sound like simple but good games to me. Perhaps Vega can pass one idea to another student.
- Some game concepts might be bit too complex for the Vectrex, e.g. the graphics of Tank Attack might be a challenge for the Vectrex. But let's see...

Hah, Don't Break My Heart looks to being sort of a reverse Space Zap/a clone bonus game that Christopher Tumber added to one of his games Nice to not only have a rare platformer for the 'trex, but also a Miner 2049 clone for it would really rock! Don't know how many levels could be done though (hopefully more than three like the two that came out for the 2600). The Heist looks like it could be another one too! Or maybe it's more of a puzzle game, I'm not sure. Looks to be an intriguing year!

Thank you (Peer), for the recent updates in the Vectrex Academy 2021 Project Gallery. Interesting to read about several jump and run games. Until now, in the pool of Vectrex games, "platformers" are a bit underrepresented. I guess drawing complex platforms is quite challenging due to the limitations of the Vectrex processor and the lack of a graphic chip. In the project gallery it says "Vector Gaming Forum Thread about the 2021 projects (soon to come)". I might be dreaming while writing this but I'd say this has come true, already.

In the project gallery it says "Vector Gaming Forum Thread about the 2021 projects (soon to come)". I might be dreaming while writing this but I'd say this has come true, already. … hehe, the new semester has barely started, and already I am running late with everything Yes, that part needed updating. Thanks a lot for spotting and reporting this, Helmut. The link is active now. In general, if you (everyone) spot any mistakes, inconsistencies, broken links etc., please let me know. Thanks also for all the other comments and thoughts here. Here is a short summary of the previous classroom meetings: At the first meeting, I gave a general introduction and an overview of the course topics and of the Vectrex console and its history. The students left with the homework task to play as many of the original 1982 Vectrex games as possible (yes, my students must play video-games as homework!!!) and to observe the look & feel of those games. They also had the task to come up with an idea and a first concept for their own projects. I deliberately set no restrictions here (except for anything unethical) and we have not yet discussed feasibility issues (e.g. of the platformers). At the second meeting, I showed them our C development environment, and we did the first "hello world" examples together. I then introduced them to the specifics of the Vectrex vectors graphics (vectors, zero reference, intensity, scale factor/time, vector lists), and the current homework for them is to define a first version of the vector lists of their game objects, and to draw them on the screen.
Many Cheers, Peer

Would be fun if one of the students chose to model a game character's appearance after the professor.

Have you yet chosen 2021 Course "TEACHING EXAMPLE" theme/design?
