Hi,
I just tried to fix the "bug" where one can position oneself and "endlessly" shoot the helicopter.
I want to do some more to Armor Attack - but not right at this moment. My personal tests show, that it seems to work - but some more "public" tests would be appreciated.
Cheers Malban

I tried it a couple of times. I could not reproduce the described "buggy behaviour" with your fixed version.

That's good, as possibly this version can possibly be used in future Vector War contests rather than the original A. Attack.

Great, Christopher, that you've worked on Armor Attack. I haven't tried out this fixed version, yet, but with this bug fix Armor Attack is a clear candidate for Vector War XII. It would be cool if you could add something on the "highscore" screen so that one can see easily that it's your version of Armor Attack which has been played.

Hi, I have been on and off working on Armor Attack... Current "beta" at: ArmorRevisited_beta2.bin
Changes since last beta: - fixed the Player 2 bug (second player was destroyed, but nearest tanks kept firing at P2 - even it he was not on screen anymore) - sped up display - should display in 50Hz all the time (in one player mode, I couldn't get far into a two player game alone - possibly there is still to much "action" on screen) - final score is displayed differently than the "original", in the original version the end Screen shows "END" this version shows "THE END" :-) Still known bugs (?): - sometimes sound switches off at the end of a level (switches on again with the death of a helicopter) - black screen for about 10 seconds after some time after game over On the todo list: - HighScore (plus save) - some sort of title screen/music? Feedback welcome Malban

Thinking about doing something 3d for an intro.
Thoughts?

Vector War is not too far away (End of October) so it's great to see that you put more effort into Armor Attack. I've tried out your fixed version and from what I can see the special positions for (almost) endless gaming still exist. I'll send you more detailed info via e-mail. 3D introI'm not so sure whether making bigger changes to original games is a good idea or not. Personally, I'm hesitant but I'm sure there's people around who like it. Perhaps enhancing the existing intro might be a good compromise: First, the standard intro could be shown and after that your 3D animation could follow. The 3D animation looks cool. But you know me: Sure enough I have suggestions: View from more from the top and less from the bottomCurrently, view is either from side and or mainly from bottom. Suggestion: It would be good if view was more from the top. This way the 3D animation matches more with the 2D top view of the game. Rotation with controllerI'd find it cool if the 3D model could be rotated using the controller. As soon as the controller is used the default rotation/animation would stop and the player takes control. If player doesn't control the tank for a while the default rotation/animation restarts. Zooming in from topIn addition to rotation, zooming the 3D tank might look cool. Zooming could be from top and at first the tank might look as in the original game. Once the 3D tank is close the camera could move towards the side and 3D rotation of the tank could start. 3D modelThe 3D model of the tank is good. Some things that might be improved: - Body (bottom) and turret (top): The body should be higher and larger while the turret should be smaller.
- Cannon: Currently, cannon and turret intersect quite a bit. I think it would look better if cannon would start outside the turret.
- Chains: In your vector model the tank has two individual chains while most vector tanks that I know of have no chains. And I guess there are reasons why most vector tanks haven't got chains: First, you need more vectors for chains and second the many vectors don't look too good when rotating. Personally I'd go for the "no chains" design but your two chains design make your vector tank pretty unique - decide yourself.
- Chains (again): Eight vectors for the chain might look better than the current six vectors. The additional two vectors are used to make the chain round (currently it's pretty angular). But then, your model uses even more vectors and as written above the many vectors don't look to good when rotating.
Thank you for your effort in improving Armor Attack, Christopher!

Thx for the response...
I'm awaiting your report on the positioning. My tryouts were successfull if I remember correctly... but there also is no absolut certainty :-).
About the the 3d stuff - this was just a first glimpse of a possible model. I certainly didn't mean to just "display" them as in the little demo file. I thought about some sort of "scene"... I need to put some more work into this - when I have time. The most important thing is to get the "endless play" feature to disappear - the rest is just cherry on top.
Cheers Malban

Thank you for your reply, Christopher. You're right, first priority has prevention of endless playing. I've just sent you an e-mail.
